I think thats the common experience of this shambolic initiative.

Perhaps Gov should be referred to this thread for some feedback on their deal.....

I am trying to book a Green Deal Assessment. Our house is leaking vast sums of money. I called NWS after clicking the link through MSE. MSE say I could even get a free assessment being in an LE postcode and some extra discount. The person I spoke to hadn't got a clue and went away to talk to a colleague and came back and said they do not cover the LE area. This contradicts what is shown on the MSE site.
I then called the Green Deal Advice Service and I had to leave a message and they have not called back.
I am already frustrated about trying to get an assessment, let alone any improvements to save energy.

Hello CUSTARD if you put your postcode in the Green Deal Participants Register which is here you should be able to find a local company/assessor rather than using a national company.

I doubt you'll get it for free unless you commit to having the work done.

  • Pretty much in the same boat. Because I work and own my own (in need of major modernisation) home from inheritance I'm not entitled to any benefits. Therefore I can't get anything for free like all the tax credit claimers get. And when I enquired about Green Deal, the provider was only interested in lining their pockets with a huge upfront deposit.

    No chance.

Hi Lee, there are new proposals for ECO which may mean you maybe able to get some work done if you haven't already. Carbon Saving Community Obligation (CSCO) is going to be extended from the lowest 15% to the lowest 25% lowest income areas and Carbon Emissions Reduction Obligation (CERO) is now going to include loft insulation and easy to treat cavity wall insulation (this used to only cover hard to treat cavities and solid wall insulation). But unfortunately you do need to be claiming certain benefits to get a new boiler through ECO. For CSCO and CERO you don't need to claiming any benefits.

If the house needs modernisation (and has solidwalls), you could get internal wall insulation which would dry line and re plaster the inside of all your outside walls for free

I have hard that you might be able to haggle the charge down to only £99 if you try hard enough. Especially if you only need the inspection to get the go-ahead to instal something you are intending to do anyway, like instal a heat pump.

Can the Green Deal assessor do the Energy Performance Certificate at the same time ?
How long doe the EPC and GD "paperwork" stay current?

    Hi All

I am trying to help my pensioner father get a new boiler, just spoke to NWS with a view to booking an assessment for him and he informed me that the so called "Green Deal" whereby he pays back the price of the boiler in his utility bills is on hold due to the Government not releasing funds!

Does anyone know this? I called NWS on Martins advice (Mythbusters) and now have nowhere else to go. He is not on benefits but struggles to live on £10,000 per year pension after tax. Apparently he is not eligible for benefits anyway so the chance of him replacing his 20 year old boiler is looking very slim.......

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Sheila

Yes the person that comes out to the the green deal will do a EPC at the same time. EPC lasts 10 years (for selling your house) but i think three years for it to be valid for ECO and Green Deal. Then i think the green deal assessment is valid for three years aswell.

If he receives pension credit and lives in a private home (owned or rented). He could receive a new boiler through ECO (depending on the amount of work that needs to be could be free). This scheme is running until 2017 and is still available, it is just the amount of money that is available changes and is subject to a few different variables meaning that depending on the circumstances it can sometimes cover the full cost of the install (which is does most of the time)

If he is not then he can get a new boiler through the Green Deal but the new boiler must be a 'cost effective' improvement. This is available but for companies to be able to offer this they must go through a £10,000 on boarding process with the Green Deal Finance Company which obviously puts a lot of companies off.

To be able to offer both the Green Deal and a ECO grant a company must be listed here if you ring around you should be able to find one who will offer either the ECO grant or a Green Deal Loan to your father.

So in short the government aren't putting the funds on hold but they do make it difficult so that only reputable companies can offer it.

Thank you Captainhindsight, the Company I rang who told me there were no funds available, were from that list. I guess I have to put aside a morning and work my way through the list. As he is not on benefits his only option is the Green Deal loan. Watch this space.......

    Thanks again

Unfortunately all green deal providers don't actually supply green deal finance plans, when you click on a company towards the bottom of the page it says Green Deal services offered, then on this list it must say 'green deal finance plan' this means they have gone through the on boarding process with the green deal finance company.

A alternative is to see here this shows what companies are offering green deal finance to their customers ( this is a much better link for what your looking for but I only just found it, sorry....)

What needs be make clearer in all the blogs, webpages etc is the people who can claim and what rules. After contacting three companies all told me that even though all my double glazed windows needed replacing that the green deal only covers single paned windows and I could not claim anything. I also need a new boiler and do not expect any cash back as I work full time. Surely the green deal should be for everyone who needs it?
