  • No not available for new builds. GD provides 'measures' or improvements to a property, so you need a a property to begin with. Grant Shapps tried to get that idea in a long time ago but because payment for any GD is via the occupants leccy bill it was legally unworkable.

Many thanks Richie, don't get me started on Grant Shapps inability to deliver...

Can someone advise me what the new rules and regs are with regards to solid wall insulation.
We live in a 1930s solid brick wall house with no wall insulation.
There is a company in this area doing solid wall insulation for £1. Lots of houses have already had this work done and it looks really impressive and some of the neighbours have said their houses are much warmer.
We enquired about having these 5 inch panels and rendering done back in August 2012.
The company aren't very good at returning phone calls or even answering the phone. Although the actual work they are doing is up to a high standard.
We finally had a survey done on November 13th 2012. On the same day our neighbour had his done.
The company have got back to my neighbour and they are due to start work soon. He will be paying £1.
Neighbour has double glazing all round, roof insulation and conservatory and extension on one side of his house.
We live in a basic, no conservatory, no extension, only half the house is double glazed and we still have wooden front and back doors. We did have a new boiler fitted last year.
We got quoted £1057, even though we had to ring the company to find that out. It just doesn't seem right that his property that seems better insulated than ours, has got a good deal and we haven't.
We were told that the chancellor changed the rules in December 2012. But I can't find out any info on the new regs.
I'm really annoyed about the way the wall insulation company have prioritise some of the houses in the area. Some people applied back in April and still haven't had any work done and those who applied only a few months back have had work finished.
Our house is rented and any contact from this company seems to go the landlord. Yes he owns the property, but we are the ones that live here and are going to let the worker gain access to the property.
I know £1,057 is still cheap to have the work done. I will just have to convince the landlord. The front of the house needs rendering anyway as the rendering is cracked and leaking in rain through the front window.
    Any advice much appreciated, thanks.

The Evoenergy website says that do free green deal assessments. When you call them, they get a green deal assessor that asks you to pay!

    Whats going on? Trading standards.....
  • I have recently got my green deal report, which makes my flat with drafty windows and electric convection heating look good, as I work away half the month and the electricity bills are low. And they could not account for this on the Report.
Besides that as well, I cant find a provider to qoute for windows and storage heaters that are in the cash back scheme. Everytime a call a provider/installer they either say they have just started up and are still waiting funding details or simply take my details and say they will callback when they can find someone.

Even the company I used for the report (DMS energy solution) took ages to give me a qoute for window's, which was 1000 more than a local tradesman and still dont know uf they can do it through green deal. And im still waiting fir tge heater qoute. Think il write the 150 for the report off and start from scratch.

If anyone knows anyone in the west coast Scotland area whos had heating and/orr windows done or who can supply please let me know. Thanks
  • I had WarmUpNorth (run by local councils with British Gas) on the phone regarding replacing the solid fuel central heating with gas central heating.

They said over the phone that I would have to pay £4K upfront and the rest going on Green Deal finance. What A joke. How do they know the cost without even coming out to the house to see whats what?

I probably could get it done myself by a local tradesman for much less. More over charging from British Gas I think.

No wonder Green Deal has been a flop.
  • The Green Deal is apparently being simplified soon I believe to eventually make it just a one-day process. Hopefully those who can't get measures under ECO will be able to benefit from this, especially as the Government put more funding towards different energy efficient measures other than focusing solely on boilers. Luckily my husband and I managed to get a free boiler from a company called Green Energy Advisor in Manchester after lots of rejections from GD companies because they wanted a huge financial contribution.

Has anybody else had work done under ECO? I know lots of people who are after double glazing under ECO/Green Deal but apparently this measure isn't covered over the scheme.

NWS who we're offering a free Green deal assessment cancelled my appointment Friday as funding has been cut.

What a mess this is. Seems like MSE guide needs to be updated.

I oddly got called by another company a few hours later, saying they had a offer on where I could pay £5000 and get my exterior wall insulated. Like I've got that amount of money readily available.
  • This whole scheme just seems to be open to so much abuse. May as well hand out blank cheques to the contractors and installers.
From what I can see the only people benefitting from the scheme are the energy and finance companies charging 10% interest on long term loans.
Ohhh... unless like my neighbours you're claiming countless amounts of benefits whilst still having 30k worth of cars sat on their drive and are looking to get their whole rented house updated for free benefiting themselves and their private landlord.
And Yet I sit in the cold in the evening and have to avoid calls from British Gas's collections department and can't even afford to get my ten year old car serviced. All because I Work.

Pretty much in the same boat. Because I work and own my own (in need of major modernisation) home from inheritance I'm not entitled to any benefits. Therefore I can't get anything for free like all the tax credit claimers get. And when I enquired about Green Deal, the provider was only interested in lining their pockets with a huge upfront deposit.

    No chance.
