Wow, if I were behind a customer who wanted to go the whole hog with a helpless cashier, I would probably ask them to get a move on / life.
But thats me. Simple, straight forward with precious time.
You may be quiet right, but in my view this is why we get such poor service - because people put up with it, but that's my view and I might be wrong - as you say "theres more to life"0 -

When it's a case of the till saying it can't be sold, there is nothing the Tesco till operator can do about it. If a supervisor or manager is called, they can over ride it but they are not supposed to. Tesco are cracking down on this at the moment (nobody is supposed to be putting anything through on price/department)
If you wanted to complain to anybody then the best thing to do is, either ask at customer service to speak to a manager or write a letter to the store manager. It is as annoying for the till operator as it is for you....0 -
whenever i go into tesco the customers are always really miserable, i'm one of the few that seems to talk to the checkout staff, you get some miserable staff though, but also some very friendly ones toothings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then

I think sometimes Tesco staff don't talk much at first until they know what sort of customer you are.
I have a few 'regulars' that come every week to me and obviously I talk more to them, but I have had a customer that followed actually tell me off for talking to my lady and said if I hadnt talked to her she would have hurried up so I could serve more customers!0 -
has anyone else's tesco stopped selling loose tomatoes? Seriously, for the last couple of months the one is Reading only has tomatoes in punnets or the v. expensive tomatoes on a vine?0

Had a similar problem at Tesco bought cheese and it was from the wrong region of the country and I was treated as if it was my fault that I should have known that I shouldn't have even considered picking up Scottish Cheese or what ever it was. Similarly they refused to sell it even thought I wanted to eat it. No help in helping get a different product and was told I would have to queue up again when I had found a cheese that they decided they wanted to sell.
I have almost given up shopping at Tesco, their customer service is very poor here, the customer service desk has an extremely long queue and same with checkouts and the staff are miserable and treat you poorly. Think it is cost cutting & money making - employ an little staff you can and forget about service.0 -

I think many claims of poor customer service are spurious but if they wouldn't sell me a particular brand of something for some reason and then refused to have someone bring an alternative to the checkout, then I think I would patiently let the sales assistant ring it all through. Then I would just leave it all on the check out and walk out.0 -

That 's not very fair on the sales assistant, why not just go and get it yourself? That still holds the queue up if that's what you want to do, and you get what you want....0 -
