Trying for a Baby Part 9

tcd, I'm planning on getting two tubs of meal replacement powder from Amazon once I get enough points on swagbucks for a gift card. One chocolate and one strawberry. I figure that I can do those for breakfast and lunch during the week, have a normal, measured meal for dinner, then eat a normal lunch and dinner on the weekends (we sleep late on the weekends, thus normally skip breakfast).
We have fruit that I've canned, but I much prefer the veggies. I'd go through a kilo of mushrooms and little else daily if we could afford it! Speaking of which, a kilo of mushrooms is only 220 calories.
We have courgettes, carrots, and celery, diced or sliced and in the freezer, I have two big packs of mushrooms, 2 1/2 bell peppers, and a head of broccoli (left from the 4 we bought Monday night) in the fridge, plus I'm still pulling kale, rocket, lettuce, and green onions from the garden. We also have 9 huge onions in the pantry and probably 2 pounds of ripe tomatoes on the counter. I'm not counting potatoes, because they are a starch, not veggie. Right now we have tons of canned apples (in water), frozen apples, and green tomatoes I'm waiting on to ripen (wrapped in newspaper in my craft room). We also have 5 cans of tomatoes in the pantry and we go through them in a hurry!
We don't eat much meat because we cannot afford it, but we do eat beans. I think one of my major downfalls is cheese. I've gotten used to having it in the freezer (found 5 kg for £12), but I've just pulled up our last block of it. I'm also working on going through all of the cream that we have in the freezer! I'm making ice cream for DH from the single cream, and I plan on making butter and buttermilk (and then freezing it again) from the double cream in there.
I honestly think that if I can stick with the eating plan on Sparkpeople I'll be able to lose what I need to lose. It's the sticking with it when you see everyone else having cakes, ice cream, biscuits, etc that is so difficult.
The good news is that I have figured out how many calories one of our homemade pizzas is since Saturday is pizza night. 670 calories for a big pizza (1/3 of our dough recipe), piled high with veggies and just a tiny bit of cheese over the top. I've factored that in for tomorrow so that I can still have it and so that I can still have breakfast or a snack and lunch.
I've tried nearly everything, and it's the sticking to it religiously and not completely degrading myself and beating myself up when I fail that's the issue.
The reason I am this weight is because I was mentally abused by my ex, and I turned to food for comfort. I've stopped gaining, haven't actually gained anything for 3 years, so that's a good start.0 -

^^^ This.
I totally hate the worlds obsession with weight - I'm only suggesting other options as we have to comply with the rules from time to time. I hate that it seems to be ok to judge people on their weight - when in reality I think its just part of the variety of life!
I suppose the argument is you use more of the free health services, but then so do people who run (ankles and knees), people who have children etc etc. It just seems there is some kind of moral police who condemn being overweight.
My BMI isn't right either I don't think. I have a super massive head (!) which I swear adds a few KG, and also huge b00bs. I'm not small, but at size 16 bottom, and 18 (ahem 20) on top to cope with said gazungahs, I don't really think I'm obese - but the BMI says so... so it must be true!0 -
I've changed that line a bit for my signature to remind me of it every time I post. Thanks!
I think I'm a size 24UK on the bottom, and probably a size 18 on top (still with massive kajungas!).
I've seen a post on pinterest that says: every time I weigh, I subtract 10 pounds. I don't think a woman's brains or b00bs should count against her! :rotfl:0 -
Hope you don't mind me posting but I'm a long time lurker and I think it's time to bite the bullet because you all seem nice!
It seems that all of my friends are having babies/pregnant at the moment and it's really starting to get me down. I'm heading out on my lunchbreak today to buy yet another baby gift for the newest arrival that I'll probably be seeing at some point this weekend. I've only discussed ttc with 1 of them because I feel that if they knew, they would be reluctant to talk about baby stuff with me to spare my feelings. They are my friends and what is happening to them is important to me. However, I'm constantly putting on a cheery face while I really feel like bursting into tears every time "baby stuff" is mentioned. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Sorry to unload here but I've been psyching myself up to go to Mothercare all day. Hope I don't start weeping in the middle of the store!0 -
BMI= Bull sh*t. I'm a size 16 all over. Am 5'7 when I'm not slouching because of my mahoosive kajungas (34G). Weigh 13 stone 4. On NHS website I'm BMI 29. On the Hewitt centre chart I have I'm 31. Go figure. It's total BS. I can run further than people 'BMI healthier' than me. I can lift more. My body does what I want it to do with the obvious exception of getting sodding pregnant and that's how I like it. I'd rather have an unhealthy BMI but be fit and healthy than like my McD's addicted sil who is a size 8 but can't run up the stairs! I know that I could do with losing about a stone and a half to get me to my 'happy marriage weight' of 11 stone 12- were it not for the IVF boll*cks I honestly wouldn't be bothered though. Even then though my BMI would still be over 25. My mum has a very slight frame and has recently lost a lot of weight (size 22 to 14/16). She is now lighter than me but her frame allows it without her looking ill. When I've been less than my 'happy weight' I look terrible.

Hi clevernamehere. I think on behalf of everyone here I can categorically state we've all felt/ feel like that- it's normal. I've had terrible thoughts about people I know have gone through terrible ttc hardships irl. How long have you been ttc for?0

Thanks, it feels better to know I'm not the only crazy one! I just hate the thought of being a bad friend.
Came off the pill in Feb 2012 but I reckon we've been "trying" for around a year. Been using a cbfm for the last 3/4 cycles. Periods are mostly regular and no underlying health problems. I suppose I've been putting off a doctors visit because it would make it all too real. What could I expect at an initial visit to the gp?0 -
Hi clevernamehere, and welcome!
I've just picked out what all I want to eat over the next week (Sunday through Friday) and added up everything that would need buying. Most of the things we already have at the house, but without markdowns or shopping around, it would be £42.87!!! That's 4 times what I normally spend for the two of us in a week!!! I can probably halve that with shopping around and possibly get away with even less if I can find things on markdowns. I do my best to only spend £10 per week for the two of us. Every 3 months or so, I'll spend an extra £50-100 on meat for the freezer. We are out of meat at the moment though. I have about 300g minced turkey in the fridge, that's it! Oh well, that's what my backup jars of beans, lentils, and peas are for.0 -
Welcome clevermehere.
Afm not feeling to good as my follies are still not responding.0 -
Walked outside to check on the clothes on the line and overheard my neighbour and his girlfriend talking. They were trying to figure out a pregnancy test. Turns out it was negative, so now they are celebrating by getting as drunk as possible and smoking weed... Needless to say I pulled all of the clothes in off the line so that they wouldn't smell of drugs.0
