Off topic, but skintchic, LIR and poet, if you really love Venice, have you read the detective series written by Donna Leon set in Venice - they are wonderful (read them in order)and get behind the scenes of the city with some great characters.

Read them all...new one due soon!! Can't wait.

Yeah I was really suprised, theyve got tons of trips to Venice around now for a great price. Its basically the last place to go to on our list of 'Places to go before children' so figured we may as well go!

Ah yeah not sure what were doing about getting from the airport yet, it looks like a private boat is 120euro! I think a public one is cheaper so might do that instead!

Im going in a couple of weeks, if any of you are looking to go, I found a deal that was £360 for 3 nights and 4 star hotel with flights for 2 ppl, through BA holidays on their website for end of Feb.

    Very best time of all.

Try Aruba...The Dominican republic is a dump if you scratch beneath the surface.
Dominica is amazing and unspoilt by too much tourism the other islands have suffered from..
    Belize is also a must...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I have only done the trip to the airport, and that only once, but I did the vaparetto.( water taxi)

    It's fine, it's great.

Venice is beautiful and unique. Also incredibly romantic. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled extensively. Some of my favourite places are in Europe.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

We have done both private and public boat. The Allilaguna (public boat) is fine from Marco Polo airport. A private water taxi is great but it is pricey it depends on your budget. Some must do's:

Do book in advance for the Secret Itineraries tour of the Doge's Palace, you get to see the rooms which are not open to the public, go up the bell tower in San Marco, and do the Viator Ghost Tour. Apart from that just wander, get lost and enjoy!!

Me too. And dh. We both chose Uk and europe as our home (each having strong links elsewhere) rather than just getting it by default, so while it's 'just' home to us it's also very special.
