I'm not interested in the Dacia Duster, the 4 x 4 may (according to reviews) cope very well off road, it is far too agricultural and basic for my liking, I nedd to drive a 40 mile round trip 6 days a week on top of any social mileage.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0

Take your point on not needing finance but 0% APR v's having the money in a bank account earning interest is a winner in an MSE sense.
If the car is overpriced then i would agree that needs taking into consideration.
You can get the IX35 1.7CDI on 0% for 3 years with a 50% deposit.
It may not be MSE, however, I don't do car finance full stop, I pay the cash and the car is mine, even on 0% the car still belongs to the finance company until you pay it off.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
What about the Mazda CX-5 it's got good write ups, looks okay too. Thanks to all the competition posters.0

The CX-5 does look nice, however the base model is over £21k, granted, it ticks all my boxes but at list price it's over budget, I would need a really good deal to be tempted.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Well pretty much exhausted the list, most others are bigger beasts. Jeep did some smaller SUV (Compass ect) but the safety records on them were pretty dire.
The Hyundai IX35 looks most with your name on it, quick look and I could find a premium version in your budget from a trader and it will have plenty of Hyundai warranty to run too, all the gear you want. I did test drive one briefly, no sports car but comfortable ride for a commute. There is a decent video review on the Honest John site worth watching.
Otherwise the Tiguan is overpriced for its long in the tooth low spec, The Rav4 is geriatric, Sportages keep the price up due to short supply, Yeti is OK but its very small and I found it quite noisy - engine rumbles, it does handle exceptionally though.0 -
No, you are changing what class each one sits in.
They are not tart cars. That just shows your complete misunderstanding of the segment. CRV, RAV4 and the Grand Vitara do not rely on badges to sell them. These cars innovated this segment. The comoact SUV/crossover segment only exists because the CRV, RAV4 and Grand Vitara were so good at what they did.
LOLZ at saying the budget/entry level SUV is the class leader and that the class leaders are tart cars.
You are lying. You obviously haven't driven any of my suggestions!
The OP specifically called the X1 and Q3 tart cars, and isn't far off the mark - overpriced, unreliable junk, built specifically to rip-off 'badge buyers'.
The Sportage isn't the most exciting drive, but as an overall proposition it's excellent - good value, exceptional reliability, fabulous residuals, and very attractive styling - perhaps you don't fully understand the segment?
The image below is from the latest What Car?/JD Power CUSTOMER SATISFACTION survey - thosee X1's look pretty good don't they? Where can I get hold of one?And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -

Nope.
If you would have followed the chain of posts you would have realised that the OP specifically stated that the Sportage is class leading. That is what I replied to. Sportage is not class leading.
Are you really banding a Sportage in X1 class? Are you being serious when you say you really think the same person would would actually think of a Sportage and X1 as the same segment? Just by actually looking at pictures of the two do you not see the if you were looking in the BMW range you have just looked at the wrong BMW!
I fully understand the segment. Are you sure you do? You do realise that the Sportage pre dates the segment you actually try to put it in?
Here is a little comparison:

Look at the actual dimensions. I am surprised that when Kia themselves have aimed the Sportage firmly into the compact SUV market that just about everyone on this thread is trying to deny that its main rivals exceed it by putting it into a lower class segment.
Like I said before, Sportage is a good budget SUV. If you want the newest numerplate on your drive then great go for a Kia but lets not fool ourselves by saying just about everyone from BMW to Toyota and Honda are making worse SUV's.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. According to Autocar, which is what I referred to after the Sportage was suggested as an option. You are getting your information from an American site, different engines and different specs.

And I allready admitted to making a mistake regarding crossover and SUV.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

Or there is this one where the reviewer actually got it right and put it in its correct segment. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
