I have just bought a new Kia sportage via online broker orangewheels, supplied by Kia dealer, first registered keeper. Very good price, think they have just decreased the amt discount but still worth a look

Sportage and ix35 share a lot in common but IMHO the sportage looks better, we did lok at quashqai but again IMHO the sportage just looks so much better, well specced, drives well, 7 year guarantee, we ordered end nov, was delivered early jan, there was a bit of delay due to Christmas etc but am well chuffed.

Did look at moka but was a bit smaller than sportage.

Another happy Sportage owner here. Had it about 15 months now and no complaints.

I'm pretty sure that you could find a second hand example. However, we originally intended to buy nearly new from a dealer but, at the time, it was actually cheaper to buy brand spanking through an online reverse auction (autoebid.co.uk). Essentially, you say what you want and dealers bid against each other to offer you the lowest price. You can then take your pick.
  • Ok, I'm leaning towards new Sportage 2 1.7 CRDi, £20,600 list though orange wheels are quoting £18,600, providing I can get the right money for my car, an 08 plate 1.9 CDTi Vectra with 43k on the clock and full dealer service history, this is £2k over my second hand budget. Only small issue is that the nearest Kia dealer is in Reading, I work in Oxford so this makes a Kia service history a bit of a problem.

    Interesting.

The MIL is looking at the Sportage (I thought it was virtually a done deal) but on Monday we are off to see the VW Tiguan she is thinking about the 2.0 TDi but I think the 1.4 TSi might be more suitable (and cheaper).

    Just another to think about.

    Isn't Bicester closer?

Also try other brokers. I'm sure you can beat that price. Try here

My wife managed to sweet talk the supplying dealer into taking her old car in PX too, which made the whole process a lot simpler.

I would be looking for approved used so it would be main dealer, I know this is a more expensive route but I feel that there is less risk of buying a dud.
In that case it doesn't matter where the car is, your local dealer should be able to arrange for it to get to you.

If I didn't own a CRV my personal preferences would be Toyota Rav4 or Suzuki Grand Vitara.

I personally would not consider a Sportage having driven one. The above 3 were the first of the original compact SUV pack and their pedigree in this class shows. The Sportage lags way behind these in terms of drive and balance between SUV to car like driving/handling.

If I really did want something like a Sportage then my choice would be a Mitsubishi Outlander.

  • I've had a new Sportage since September and I really like it. I looked at every other possibility, had test drives in my top 3, and everything just kept coming back to Kia. 7yr warranty - its a no brainer. It's a nice looking car, drives well, and has all the gizmos - I've got the KX3 though.

Like Mr G above, I was aiming for a nearly new, but the deal from the dealer - after a bit of work - made it a bit pointless. Have a look on the autotrader website in a 200 mile radius from your address to see availability, I bet there's not much.

If you go onto Kia's own website and look at dealer stock, if there is something you fancy they will get it to your local dealer, but I'd go for a test drive first!

My guess is that you have driven the older Sportage, and not the late 2010 onwards model.

The earlier one was a bit more 'old school', ladder-style chassis etc., the new one is totally car-like, perhaps more so than the examples you list - more akin to something like a Qashqai than an Outlander.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

No not for me, I live south of Oxford and travel there to work.

I looked at the Tiguan, over priced if you ask me, they start at over £20k and you get no cruise control, bluetooth etc for that.
