Except for disabled people, I believe that the benefit system should operate on a basis of ‘you can take out pro rata to what you’ve put in’. This would ensure that the benefit ‘kitty’ can only be drawn upon in a time of need to people who have already contributed.

I have said this for years, why can anyone just come into the UK, never paid a penny into the system and start claiming hundreds of pounds a week, when people who have worked for years can only get a pittance when needs dictate (sickness, job loss etc). This is so wrong. If it were operated more like a bank account, if there's nothing been paid in, there's nothing to come out!

BT should be forced to open up all their exchanges. I have to pay an extortionate rate for slow broadband because BT hog my local exchange. This has been going on for years. They should not be allowed to do this.
I agree it is time that the telephone lines are nationalised to get rid of the monopoly that is BT and the ever increasing rates they charge

Make retirement compulsory / encourage it by reward if necessary. 1.5m pensioners currently work, and this is rising. With around 2.5 million unemployed, it makes economic sense to employ & invest in the younger generation.

I so agree, instead of making people work longer before they can claim their state pension, they should encourge people who have worked all their lives to pack it in, so freeing up a job for a youngster to geta life, get on the property ladder etc.
In April I will have worked for 40 years with hardly a break but I am forced to work until 66 before I can officially retire and claim state pension. As I am now 57, I will have worked for 49 years and won't get any extra than someone who has only worked for 30 years (minimum requirement) How unfair is that. I would gladly leave my job if I could claim my pension now. Fat chance.

  • Tax PLASTIC bags. The goverment is always looking to bridge the borrowing defecit. Around 10-13 billion are used in the UK each year. A tax of 5p or 10p each bag would bring in revenue and encourage public to re-use bags or get bag for life.

We already have to pay for plastic carriers in Wales - have done for some time now. It is very strange when I shop in England to have a carrier bag given to me with my purchase, but I always carry fold away shoppers so I am not caught out.

Includes all politicians, local govt employees, police, National Health, civil servants.

I so agree, if they cannot live on £1K a week, they don't deserve to be in the job. Scandalous.
  • Make income tax payable over 11 months rather than 12. That way, everyone gets a bonus month in the year where they earn "more money", but HMRC still gets it's amount for the year! Happy Days!

Simplify the tax system by combining Income Tax and NI. Not a tax rise or cut, just efficiency and simplicity. It would help self employed people account for their tax liability, it's not just 20% they have to put aside.
