Since the move to single tier and SC it all seems to have gone to pot for us with M&S. Changed to a fixed price tarriff when the new tarriffs came in. Had an e-mail with the gas bill a week ago, based on a estimate, gave a reading, no sign of e-mail bill with my reading.

No e-mail about electricity, looked on account and there is a debit, but the bill is dated 12 September with an estimated reading, yet consumption shows useage to 13 December 2013.

Tried giving updated readings and nothing being accepted. Never mind the prompt payment reduction has gone and its christmas so no rush for me to sort it out.

My TCB cashback didn't track, so I had to do a missing claim. Finally confirmed as OK today (which I didn't think it was going to seeing as M&S energy seems to not exist any more).

I applied on Sep 1, and my QuidCo didn't track either. I made a claim on Sep 8, and this morning received an email informing me that QuidCo have just submitted the claim to M&S. Looks like it'll be a slow old process.
But finally success, QuidCo have confirmed my cashback!

  • Could anyone help with advice please. I signed up with M&S Energy through the Cheap Energy Club at the end of last year. As I signed up the M&S Energy website clearly stated a number of M&S vouchers if I switched over to them. At the time I'm sure it said £50, although the pages now indicate £40, for both gas and electricity. As no vouchers have been forthcoming, I contacted them the other day, and their response has been thus:
'Unfortunately as you signed up through a comparison website the offer which was stated to you is something we cannot honour. Customers that joined up directly through M&S Energy via the telephone or on the M&S Energy website were only applicable to receive a £10.00 M&S joining voucher per fuel. I would advise that you to contact the comparison website directly where you can raise your query with them to investigate as they run offers independently to us.'
Is this true? Because even though I went through the Cheap Energy Club site, the pages I followed still indicated the M&S vouchers were part of the deal, and nowhere in the asterisked comments did it state that these would not be paid out if coming to the deal from an alternative source.
    Please advise.
  • I am also expecting £40 in vouchers from the switch back at the end of last year. I also received a £5 voucher through the post. Their response to my e-mail was 'Unfortunately as you signed up through a comparison website the offer which was stated to you is something we cannot honour. Customers that joined up directly through M&S Energy via the telephone or on the M&S Energy website were only applicable to receive a £10.00 M&S joining voucher per fuel. Seeing as I joined through the mse Cheap Energy Club, any ideas if what they are saying is true? And how do I contact the mse Cheap Energy Club for a response to this?

Today I had an MSE energy club email pointing me in the direction of M&S (after discounting some for a bad service record etc). I would be interested in updates on this thread. In particular whether people got cashback and whether the change over was smooth.

  • I'm just about to leave because their follow on prices aren't competitive. The switch and subsequent service was fine from the M&S end - although it wasn't as easy to leave Ovo as I had hoped but that was an Ovo issue and nothing to do with M&S.

Oops I'm looking to go to Ovo because like you I'm not finding the new M&S rates competitive enough, were they really bad? As for M&S they were ok, there were a couple of occasions where I had to contact them about my account but it was all sorted out and the customer service agents seemed helpful.
  • I'm in the process of switching to co-op energy from the M&S tariff which finishes at the end of September. No problems with M&S but the follow on tariff isn't competitive for me.

I don't like the website, it doesn't give information about useage in a nice graphical form like EON for example. I've got a credit balance so hope I get it back quickly after the switch. Last year Scottish Power were very quick, although I know that wasn't everyone's experience

Check the equivalent Ovo thread for my experience. They basically continued to take payments after I had left even though I had a huge credit balance with them. When I called them the people on the phone had no idea of what they were doing and weren't at all helpful. Fortunately my bank was far more helpful and immediately refunded me the money that Ovo shouldn't have taken (which confused Ovo even more).

Before that, they had charged me for the wrong sort of gas meter so my payments increased dramatically in order to correct their error.

I've been with SSE (or a related company like M&S) a few times now and found their customer service much better. Just wish their current prices were more competitive.
