Morning flyer22
Glad all's going well with the switch your parents are doing. Totally understand, some people like to receive paper bills and pay on receipt rather than go all digital. They can certainly do this and also have an online account.
When they applied, they would've been given the options of having paper bills and paying on receipt of the bill. If they chose these options, their account will be set up along these lines. Registering with our website won't affect this unless they change their minds and actively make the alterations.
If they didn't select paper bills, they can make the change online or by phoning us. Once registered with our website, they can opt for paper bills by going to 'change your details' then 'paper bills and statements.' Select 'yes' and 'submit.' This will mean they lose the discount of £5 per fuel per year for going paperless.
A Direct Debit can't be cancelled online so they would need to either phone us or their bank. There are lower daily standing charges for paying with a Monthly Direct Debit. These are worth about £35 per fuel per year.
Don't forget about the E.ON Rewards I mentioned above. These can be exchanged for Tesco Clubcard points or High Street Shopping Vouchers. They're free and might make up a bit for missing out on the discounts/lower standing charges. They'll need to opt in though. Again, this can be done online or over the phone.
Hope this answers your questions flyer22. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

If any of the EON reps could message me regarding my opening meter readings that would be great.
I used the mobile website to add them and I've no idea if I did it correctly...It had the electricity one and a submit button with a black bar under it saying 'gas'.
I completed the Electricity reading and hit submit (as that was the next obvious button) and it gave me a confirmation then dumped me back out to the homepage.
I then went back in to the meter readings page and it still says "Opening meter readings due:" but no submit button under the electricity section. I clicked the 'gas' bar (out of desperation:() and his opened the gas reading input section with the submit button, I entered those readings and hit submit and got no confirmation. It just dumped me back to the main menu.
Both sections still say "Opening meter readings due:".
I just want to know it has all gone through correctly (and that I'm not now signed up to just electricity!) I wont be able to phone the helpline until after work and the gym which will be about 8 or 9pm when I think the lines will be closed?
A little worried now...:(0 -
I'm trying to swap to Eon. Had an activation e-mail, but neither of the links work. Tried getting into their website, but do that either. Computer says Safari can't find a safe link. Is anyone else having problems?0

Sorry Coedy but MSE don't let Company Reps use Private Messages. Don't worry, though, there's an email address in my Profile you can use. If you drop an email with your details and readings to this address, I'll be happy to take a look.
Not sure what's happened here. Usually, you need to enter both the electricity and gas readings and then hit 'submit.' You mention using 'the mobile website.' Do you mean you're trying to enter the readings through a mobile phone app? If you are, I'm aware of a few glitches recently with our phone app and this could be causing the issue. I'm speculating here but trying a desktop computer might help.
The 'opening meter readings due' message doesn't disappear straightaway so I wouldn't worry about that. It'll drop off once the readings have been used to start the account. Also, don't worry about only the electricity switching. As you were given the option to enter readings for both fuels, we'll be taking over the gas as well as the electricity.
Sorry for the speculation Coedy but hope it eases your mind a little. Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks a lot Malc. I'll email you the info once I'm on break (10-20mins or so).
I also took a photo of the meters last night before sending the readings which I can send over at the same time if you like.
Thanks a lot for looking at this for me.

Hi Jackiemurg and welcome to the Forums.
I'm sorry you're having difficulties activating your online account. We've recently come across a difficulty where some customers aren't able to use Safari and Internet Explorer to access our website. We've found older versions of these browsers don't have sufficient security settings to be compatible with our website. From your post, it looks like this is happening to you. Don't worry, all you need do is either update your current browser or download a new one.
Once you're in, you can use an online tool called 'Track My Switch' to see where we're at with your move over to us.
Sorry again for the difficulties Jackiemurg but hope this helps.

Used the collective switch and I am pleased it went smooth, back to EON from British Gas. Thank goodness."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
