Eon energy reviews: Give your feedback

Hello, I desperately want to change energy supplier and am considering Eon (seem to come out top quite often when I do a comparison).
I've had massive problems with my current supplier as I use Economy 7 (storage heaters) and their new system they installed couldn't cope with having 4 different electricity readings! So they've all had to be done manually which means waiting nearly a year for a bill after moving house ...
Anyhow, can anyone tell me if Eon have similar problems or do meter readings go through no problem and bills produced on a quarterly basis? Can you phone in meter readings? If you opt for an online account, can you only submit them that way as opposed to over the phone?
Have tried phoning (usually after work I must admit), but never get through to anyone and give up after 10 mins or so!!
Hi buffymad and sorry for the late reply.
We've no problems accepting Economy 7 meter readings but 4 different readings and storage heaters sounds more like a complex meter. Something like Economy 10, Economy 18, Heatwise etc.
If it is this type of meter, we can accept readings for most of these. There may be an odd one where we can't so best to check.
With Economy 7, we're also able to add the day and night registers together and charge as a single rate where this is better for individual customers.
Readings can be phoned in or put online through our website, whichever is preferred. Customers registered with the website can still phone in with readings if they like.
Billing is mainly quarterly accept in certain circumstances like short term lets. Again, best to check first.
Hope this answers your questions buffymad.

The relevant screen will tell you what we estimate you'll need to pay each month. This is to achieve as near as possible to a zero balance by the time of the annual review.

When is Eon's annual review date for the MSE CEC collective switch tariff?
I'm in the process of switching to this tariff having been away from Eon for a few years. Eon has correctly advised my initial monthly DD to be 1/12th of the annual consumption I gave them and I'm happy with that.
For a 12 month fixed tariff I would broadly expect this to remain unchanged (notwithstanding changes in usage due to warmer/colder winter, etc.).
Having taken out the tariff at the start of winter with a zero credit balance I am however dreading the monthly payment battles with Eon to achieve their zero balance in the spring that used to apply last time I was with them (one of the reasons I left Eon).
Clearly with my monthly DD being 1/12th of annual in December I will probably have a large debit balance in the spring that will gradually clear next summer - this is what I expect to happen. I hope Eon don't still play the game of massively ramping up my DD after 3 months of winter use.
Perhaps Eon Malc would like to comment on what is likely to happen with respect to annual reviews on this MSE CEC tariff?

Hi TOG and welcome back.
The annual review for Monthly Direct Debits takes place12 months after they're set up.
If you've changed through the MSE Collective Switch and opted for a Monthly Direct Debit, payments will start on the day requested immediately after the account goes live. The annual review will be 12 months after this.
Totally understand your comments about the spring reviews. This was the way we used to run Monthly Direct Debits.
After listening to customer feedback, much of it from MSE, we changed this to 12 months from set up. Off the top of my head, this was about 2 years ago.
Now, payments are spread evenly over a 12 month period.
We review the payments each quarter but, if necessary, will only suggest a change twice a year. This is at the annual review and 6 month point.
At the other times, we'll recommend a change if we think it's needed but leave it to the customer to make any alterations. The aim is to have as near as possible to a zero balance by the time of the annual review.
Any credit balance of more than a fiver at the annual review will automatically be refunded.
We've also introduced a facility on our website to give online customers the option of amending their payments should circumstances change. This is the Direct Debit Manager. I posted a bit more about this in response to HawkFun earlier in this thread.
Hope this answers your question TOG. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.

I have just joined EON, and so far everything has been great. i have phoned them a couple of times and only once i had a wait time of about 4mins which is ok, (Unlike SP wait times dont get me started).
They also great at responding to twitter.

Just in the process of switching to EON through the MSE collective switch. Most of the unit rates (for elec, gas, standing charge) were cheaper with EON (except just one of them, can't remember which one) than NPower. Should be saving about £154 annually as per the comparison. So far, I have been receiving emails regularly and have activated my Eon online account just today. The accounts are to be fully switched in the first week of December.SPC 08 - #452 - £415
SPC 09 - #452 - £2980 -

Perfectly and thank you for taking the time to reply so comprehensively. I'm glad you've put my main concern about switching back to Eon to rest.

I'm currently switching from SSE to E.On, but the latter's website is confusing regarding giving the opening meter readings:
- I received an email on the 7th November asking me to provide an opening electricity meter reading as soon as possible (I forget the deadline date given), which I did on the 12th November, and appears to be recorded but doesn't show.
- I received another email today (13th November) asking me to provide an opening gas meter reading as soon as possible.
I've also noticed that the dates on both tabs for when the readings are required have changed a few times (up until yesterday they were saying the 16th November, now they're saying the 19th and 24th November for electricity and gas respectively).
This website doesn't fill me with confidence at the moment, and neither does their smartphone app (but that's another story), hopefully it'll get sorted soon - I don't want to be receiving emails every other day asking for opening reads and then being unable to input them into their system.0 -
I would appreciate it if Malc could clarify something for me.
I am currently in the process of switching to the MSE tariff. I have already had an email from EON confirming the details of the tariff and the initial fixed monthly direct debit amount, but now I have received an email saying I could save up to £70 a year if I sign up to direct debit?
When I click the sign up link in the email and log into my account, I just get a message that says 'As we’re updating your account details, you won't be able to view your account just yet.'
Could this email have been sent in error or do I need to sign up for direct debit when I have access to my account?0
