i hate those poems!
when i got married i asked the opinions of people of an older generation than me (ie parents and aunties) who i'd expect to have a strong opinion against asking for money but they said they preferred it, makes things easier to just write a cheque and get a nice card!
we put a note in the invitations to say we don't want anything but if you want to give then please can it be money. worded nicer than that but not a poem! i think about two thirds of our guests gave us something and a few of those gave us a present instead of cash.
I'm pleased to say everyone got us a card though, i like keeping cards and there's some lovely words in them
OP what about a bottle of champagne and some nice flutes? I got some lovely photo frames, like nicer ones than you'd buy for yourselfLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

dont worry i have requested this thread be closed due to the nature of some peoples attitude on this
if they are not careful they will be reported but glad to say i will block them shortly
its a shame that we cant be adults and discuss things like a debate as oppose to bullying me
i find it hilarious that people sit behind a computer and quite happily sit and throw comments about but would the bullies be so brave to say this face to face - i hope they have a pleasant manner as the way they come accross on here is just very vicious!
mrcow i misread what you wrote -i thought you objected to money all in - i can see how some dont like poems, i do, i dont really mind if someone requests it outright, through poem, face to face or through family.:A VK :A0 -
team lowe, i like the cards too, all mine are kept in a lovely box up the attic that i look at from time to time
i would normally go for the champagne and glasses but the mrs is expecting so thought i could get them something they could use straight away as oppose to hold off
you can get some great deals on champers at the moment and the glass choice is fantastic
plus i know someone on facebook who makes up wine glass charms so i think the next one like that i will get mr and mrs ones made up or bride and groom etc they only cost a pound so not exactly a lot of money
thanks for your suggestion though:A VK :A0 -

What about non-alcoholic champagne?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

I think it's one of those things that has turned into a pet hate of mine. Happily, you don't see so many of them these days!
I can't actually remember the last time I went to a wedding and bought something off a gift list. It's got to be ten years or so ago. I think the norm these days is to give cash or vouchers. It feels a little lazy but at least you know it's wanted!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
never thought of that
thats a good idea
i know they do the non alcoholic wine never even thought of champer - ill need to look into that in future:A VK :A0 -

Don't be ridiculous. Bullying you?
Giving you an opinion and asking questions is not bullying you.
It's a nappy cake. Stop blowing it out of all proportion. Calm down a little. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
i think alot of people sometimes feel ackward with gift list - dont see many either
last one i used was about 2 years ago with debenhams and by chance the stuff on the list was reduced the day i went in and on top of that i had something like a 10 or 20% voucher off on top of that
so got a fabulous deal
and debenhams made a booboo i asked to take my gifts home as i like to wrap them all fancy and when my friend got her gifts delivered they had sent her an extra set so she managed to do fabulously well out of it - was really chuffed for her:A VK :A0 -
sambucas maybe if you read back your comments you would see you are coming accross as stubborn and aggressive other users have commented on this as well
if you dont want to take part in the suggestion of WEDDING gifts then leave the thread and let it run as it should be:A VK :A0 -
You could get them a lovely hamper from somewhere like Fortnum & Mason? Or make one up yourself, filling it with lots of lovely little things for them.0
