Why don't the servers in the USA carry all this data? because one server may not have been big enough and if he has been rackerteering then he can move stuff from server to server easier if he controls the servers.

many companies have servers in different world locations. as backups users may have placed files on a USA server and as a secuirty feature that have used a cluster to relay this information on several servers, so if 1 server went down the files would be on another server and acceptable by users. so all servers would be seized to check

This just goes to show you don't know anything about so called "cloud" computing (or distributed server farms before "cloud" was the buzz word).

They don't just place one server in a data centre and call it done.
You are also suggesting that KDC knew the FBI were on to him because he suddenly pulled all the data he was storing in the USA and moved it elsewhere?

There will have been dozens of servers with content distributed across all of them in multiple locales.

In fact it wouldn't surprise me if they were buying time and storage from other companies "clouds" without them even knowing the specifics of what was involved.

This was then, probably, geographically set up so that when any individual user connected to it you got served from the local "farm" using something like a Cisco GSS (global site selector).

This allows for total site loss with minimal data loss and at worst a bit of latency for the customer now having to download/upload to a less local data centre.

but the FBI is a LEGAL authority

Only in the USA. They have NO legal authority elsewhere.

    when did i say that.

I am a webhost and have been for many years. megaupload would have had a cluster of servers across the globe, so the infor stores on the uiSA server would through the cluster be on other servers as a backup if the USA servers crashed files etc would be still available to users through the cluster.

yes his new site will be on a cloud but still does not change the person behind the site does it

You said it just there ^

You don't move stuff from server to server in a clustered environment.

The data itself would be distributed on some sort of Storage network and the servers access that via a SAN or some other extended file system.

There would have been a local "storage array" seized with the servers in the US and that was most likely replicating to other storage networks for DR purposes geographically.

It is unlikely any individual user would notice replication lag as they would almost always be hitting the locale nearest to themselves so it wouldn't need to be in real time.

I'm pleased for you that you are a "webhost" but i suspect you won't be building or designing anything on this sort of scale.

i never really said that the clister would allow user access to their files if the main server crashes.

i have many server across the globe all clustered together so know what i am talking about. it is people on here that cant read.

I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt with regards to how it read but you stated there might be only one server with not enough storage space.

How else would that be interpreted?
I was laying out my two pence worth that if there are servers they've seized in the USA then logically there should be some sort of storage array alongside it.

So why therefore do they need to fish for all that data in Canada and not say, "we would like X data to confirm it correlates with y data we have found locally"?

I'm not overly interested in what you do nor am i attacking "you".

I'm interested in your stance on KDC and general belief with regards to the FBI / Government agencies, etc.

My take is that the "racketeering" and other things bandied about are unproven and after seizing all that data, stripping the domain and generally making the guys life as difficult as possible via very iffy means they have yet to try prosecute him for any crime at all.
On top of that they have now been slapped down by two different judiciaries for basically not doing their jobs properly.

I suspect KDC isn't a nice man, hell he'd probably even say so himself but that doesn't mean a government agency of any nation can behave how they wish.
I stated up front i wouldn't use his services but the FBI, US prosecutors office / whomever can't behave like the biggest bully in the park because they feel like it.

This smells of "Civil enforcement" at the behest of powerful companies in the USA because this guy is knackering up their business model.

I doubt they would offer the same level of protection to someone ripping off mom and pop kettle in Alabama.

If he is guilty of something in the US then present the evidence and extradite him.

It isn't like NZ or Canada are exactly anti America now is it?

I pay lots (well, some) in taxes to the Government, and most of them are crooks. I'd rather give my cash to a fat f*ck than a paedo in Govt.

but you wont be aiding a criminal which payment could be traced

You seem to really hate this guy??

You also seem to like the words 'laundering' and 'racketeering'
