  • I have a genuine claim which meets all the criteria required. However, I am dealing with Thai Airways whose customer service department does not to reply to my emails. Neither do they have a contact phone number listed. Before I go any further, has anyone else experienced this 'ostrich' approach by Thai air? Do they have a bad customer relations reputation? Grateful for any advice.

we were delayed for just over 4 hours on vs075 from man to orlando on the 21st oct 2010. we sat on the tarmac all the time, we were offered nothing at the time, we were told it was due to a techincal failure of a switch.
I am a little worried as I paid for the holiday with vh and paid with club card vouchers. can I still claim?

    Hi,
We were delayed for more than 28 hours on a flight from Orlando to Gatwick last year. I wrote to complain to Virgin who have replied and are very apologetic but only offered a few airmiles and because my wife does not have an airmiles account she has nothing.

I think we qualify for compensation however, reading the guidance on here it says they are not liable if its a safety issue. How is a safety issue defined?

This was the reply from Virgin for why the flight was delayed.

"I'm sorry for the delay to your flight and for any inconvenience this may have caused. The disruption itself was due to an unexpected technical issue discovered shortly before our scheduled departure. The fault was part of a fire alert system which would notify our flight deck team of a fire within one of the aircrafts engines. I'm sure you can understand just how crucial this is and how important it is to be active and fully operative when flying. "

Do you think we still have a case for compensation?

    Thanks.

I have just submitted a claim to BA for a 24h delay from Dubrovnik to Gatwick in 2011 because the Pitot was damaged on the incoming flight and they had to wait for the spare part coming from the USA. They could not fly safely without it.
I sent the claim in four days ago and have received a reply this morning to say they will be sending me a cheque as compensation.
You are entitled to compensation if it is a technical fault. Do not give up at the first hurdle.
  • Hi there,

My partner and I flew with Emirates from Hong Kong to London before Christmas but had our flight cancelled at the time we were supposed to board. We didn't get on another flight until 18 hours later. I guess that because Emirates is not an EU airline that I cannot claim through here.

However, I have been in contact twice with Emirates and have been ignored both times. We rented a car through the airline too but were obviously a day late to collect it so I feel we are certainly due compensation for at least this issue. What can we do to reclaim compensation when the airline ignores our requests/issues?

What is the correct protocol to collect compensation from non-EU airlines? This is a large airline and I feel they should be responsible to their customers.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
  • Hi,

I've been offered $2400 for two of us after a delay from Manchester to New York from American Airlines but it's in the form of travel vouchers.

Does anyone know if they are able to do that? I've already responded asking the question why they've sent vouchers and not monetary compensation.

Yes they are - but only €1200, not $2400, presumably. So if you think you might fly AA again, it could be worth considering ...
  • My wife and young son were due to fly back from Stockholm today with BA. But earlier today the flight was cancelled with no reason given. The original flight was destined for London City Airport but there aren't lots of those so they had to be rebooked onto a flight into Heathrow. This leaves appx 2 hours later.

We didn't pick LCA for no reason. It's the right side of London for us and bringing a 6 yr old back on the train at 6.30pm was going to be difficult enough. Now it's going to be 8.30pm, goodness knows how long to get through immigration etc and the wrong side of London to boot.

I have had to hire a cab to go and get them. Thank you BA. £80 out of pocket.

Is there anything we can do about this?

My guess is the outbound from LCY was cancelled due to fog.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • No explanation at all. But not the only flight being cancelled from Stockholm to London apparently. I could understand if it was snowing, but weather seems fine here. Maybe not at the airport. Fog, is it?

Thanks Centipede, we will look into that. Tbh just getting the cab fare back would make me happy.
