Maybe he likes his food with a wetter consistency? So he pours sauce or gravy over anything which seems too dry to him.

The salt will be because he is used to very salty food from his childhood. I have quite a few friends who are the same. It doesn't mean your food tastes rubbish, it means his tastebuds are all shot to pieces :)

Are the sauces not an issue if he is diabetic though? Most table sauces are chockfull of sugar aren't they?

I'd be more worried about the salt intake, but as for letting the dinner get cold, I'd just let him get on with it. He can always put it in the microwave to warm it up

OH cooked for us today, and I put salt on it before tasting it - and then thought about why because of this thread.

OH never adds enough for my taste, I know that - the kids and he don't like salt, and I do.

He however tends to put chilli sauce on all sorts of bizarre things (cottage pie last night!) - because he likes things chilli.......... he adds it to chilli because I don't do it hot enough for him.

Neither of us take offence - we are married, love each other, and it would be a stupid stupid thing to get all snitty about.

We cook for ourselves really when we cook (or for the 'majority' we have kids) - and then everyone adds sauce etc to their personal taste. We are all individuals in our family, we all like different things. It doesn't mean I didn't love that he cooked sausage casserole - just that I knew I would want salt, I know him well enough to know how his seasoning would be.

In a restuarant I'd taste it first (they tend to add more salt and pepper the longer they have been chefs! Get a long term one and even I can't eat it!)........ but at home, I know he doesn't add it during cooking, I add it when I dish up.

Really, don't you have enough respect for him to let it go - surely if you are living with someone you understand about cutting each other slack and concentrating on the big things?

Salt on a dinner - don't make this a big resentment. Surely he can have 'permission' to eat his food how he likes?

He doesn't think it is having an impact on MY health. That's different.

And I'm not seeing salt intake listed as a risk factor for atherosclerosis here.

That site lists hypertension as a risk factor, high salt intake increases your risk of hypertension. You might not have it now but it doesn't mean you never well.

You don't have to listen to me, but the information's out there. You take great pride in making good choices for your child, why not do the same for yourself?

I don't love myself as much as I love my child.

But...that link says it's all about increased blood pressure. Mine is so low I am banned from giving blood and nurses always double take when they take it. My blood pressure couldn't be much lower without me ending up unconscious.

My Oh is pretty livberal with the ketchup, and he doesn't need to taste it, he knows my cooking by now. that said he is always very appreciative of anything I cook and has ketchup with stuff he has cooked too.
  • If he wants to ruin his food let him. I've got a dh exactly the same and i've given up caring. Roast dinner-he throws tom sauce on it maybe a ton of mint sauce.
Most of his dinners he mashes up!
  • What really pees me off is when I spend ages cooking a low fat tasty meal and then my OH puts grated cheese all over it!
