I'm not a big user of salt or condiments (but I am of freshly ground black pepper), but I know which meals I like what with, and I wouldn't have to taste it first to find out. E.g, I like salt on fresh sliced tomatoes, brown sauce on scrambled egg, ketchup on mac & cheese, and black pepper on most things.

I don't really see why you feel he would need to taste first to find out that a condiment would taste nice with a certain meal - he probably already knows which condiments he likes with which meals!

Adding salt, pepper or sauce to a meal doesn't suggest that he doesn't like/value your cooking unless he is literally smothering it in order to mask the taste!

I was brought up to believe it is bad manners to season your food before tasting it.

  • Maybe you're just a really bad cook and he doesn't wanna tell you it's inedible so does the only thing he can to not hurt your feelings and cover it in sauce and salt. :)

More than one, I was thinking the same, but was too polite actually post it :rotfl:
  • His health is a concern but that's a discussion I've given up on really.

We don't sit to the table because we'd have to drag it out every meal but maybe that's a thing to try.

Some meals I cook him he's never had before so he can't know if he likes a certain condiment on it beforehand.

His mum also smothers food in salt and roast dinners are drowned in gravy without you being asked if you want any so I guess it is an inbuilt automatic thing.

Thanks for everyones comments. I think I'll try asking him to taste things as I'm cooking them from now on.

I'm pretty sure its considered rude to the cook to drown your food in salt or ketchup before even tasting it........

    Not just me then :o

My pet hate is somebody who does that then lights up a cigarette immediately they swallow the last morsel - as if they need something to take the taste away.

DH was warned off salt when he developed high blood pressure, then was forbidden salt after his heart bypass surgery - Lo-salt on the oven chips and that's it is our house. Again, he was force fed it as a boy as it was flung into everything by the handful.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Your lover? That sound so passionate, so romantic:D
Well you know,it only takes a little bit of thought. Your woman has cooked a nice meal. She wants to nurture you and make you feel better after a hard day at work. She wants to see that you enjoy and appreciate it. Its incredibly thoughtless, bad mannered and disrespectful to act in such dismissive ways.;)
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
