NigeWick - I'm really interested in the Paleo eating, where do you recommend for info on this?
I've googled but most of the sites are 'very American'
This method seems to work well for you and as I still seem to be 'stuck' even when upping exercise etc... I think I need to try something else??I'd like to find out more info (particularly on what to eat and how to adapt to the family) so your recommendations would be great (not a great one for books, so if info is available online, that would be a great help) Thanks Natbags0 -

I think this one is British http://paleoresources.com/
If you want to try something different, there's always intermittent fasting. I often miss a Sunday evening meal. Many people restrict calories to 500 or 600 two days a week in order to lose weight and encourage cell repair (anti ageing strategy) as opposed to growing new cells.
The basic idea is to stick to meat, fowl, fish, eggs, plants and fruit & nuts in season. There's a good example on Mark's Daily Apple. I can't afford grass few beef etc, nor a lot of organic produce due to money restrictions. I just do what I can when I can. Free range eggs from Aldi or Lidle are just £1.09 for six. Tinned mackerel and herring are good value in Lidl, as are organic carrots and onions. Both stores have mushrooms, spinach and other veg at comparatively reasonable cost.
I pick my battles and do what I can when I can.The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

YAY! Felt like getting on the scales this morning. 12st 13lbs. I was 13st 1lb just before Christmas and believe I put about three on over the festivities as I was 13st 4lbs the first week of January. I was concerned that I had not lost anything last week, but, 5lbs in four weeks isn't so bad.
Well done. What a great feeling and achievement. :jNothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task

Yep, don't.
I used to be a snacker but never feel the need nowadays. I will give myself a treat when I think I've deserved it though.
There is a theory that we should eat five or six small meals during the course of the day. Is that logical? Our hunter gatherer ancestors would probably not have eaten until they got back from the day's hunting/foraging. They may have breakfast if there were any leftovers and then nothing until dinner's cooked. In hard times they would have to live off body fat for a time too. Our DNA hasn't altered much, if at all, since then and it makes sense to me that we should not need to constantly graze. That said, I would be amazed if they didn't eat a berry or ten as they were gathering.
I am working up to the "don't" I guess I graze a lot as I never eat a big meal. My main meal of the day is at lunch time, I have no desire for an evening meal; if I go to the gym after work then I have a fruit/veg smoothie.Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task

Hi guys,
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back and update.....life and work kind of took over!
I weighed this morning and I'm now down to 13st 1lb so that's 2 off on around 10/11 days. I'm very happy with that cos I definitely want it staying off!
I've increased my water intake and cut down on the crisps and chocolate (although not altogether!!)
I've also taken a couple of walks and it seems to be doing the trick.....although I know that I need to increase this as well in order to lose the weight.
You all seem to be doing well......let's keep it up.:D

It's actually easier to lose weight by just eating the right stuff and cut calories as vigorous exercise makes one hungry.
I can see where you are coming from in terms of losing weight but I just can't advocate not exercising! It's so important for general health benefits. Increases bone density, improves HR/BP, improves circulation, maintains mobility and balance, keeps a better muscle:fat ratio etc etc. I can see the sense behind what you are doing, and it does make sense but making you hungry doesn't necessarily mean you will eat rubbish....it's also about making healthy choices. If you exercise, get hungry and then eat something healthy, no harm done surely!Kitchen Debt - 2820/260Save £12k in 2013 #060: 1293.24/3000MFW: 88760.00/85000.00 (4.24% paid)0 -

Simply give up refined sugar and simple carbs (eg. white bread, rice and pasta). This will be very difficult at first because they are so addictive...possibly as addictive as many illegal drugs.
Just like nicotine, heroin and the like, refined sugar will give you a temporary high (an insulin spike), followed by a come down - which may involve lethargy, irritability and even depression. It's during that come down that you crave more sugar, to get you back to that high point.
Many people mistake these cravings for hunger, but they are not the same thing.
It's difficult when you start as you're quite literally fighting an addiction, but eliminating sugar and simple carbs from your diet will stop the cravings altogether and it becomes very easy to continue this lifestyle. Even when surrounded by cakes and sweets, the urge to eat them is very easy to shrug off.
The problem with a lot of diets is that they allow cheat meals. If you cut sugar for a week and then enjoy a few sugary treats of a weekend, you're putting the addictive substance back into your body and the cravings will start again. You will be in a constant state of craving and your diet will always feel difficult. But if you permanently rid yourself of this rubbish, you will find losing fat and living healthy comes very easy.
I have to admit I am addicted to sugar and have tried so hard to beat it, I am once again trying ... Fingers crossed I manage it this time, it really has had such a negative impact on my life, but try as I might I can't seem to give it up for good0 -
Hey,
I'd like to join too if I can. I started on 30th Jan so not too far behind!
I (stupidly) decided to do the Cabbage Soup Diet and I'm currently on day 4 which means I can have bananas today. Problem is, I had one bowl of soup on Day 1 and didn't really like it so I haven't ad any more. All I've had the last 2 days are oranges, cucumber, asparagus and a small baked potato. I have however lost 4lb.
A few years ago, I lost 6 stone by pretty much not eating anything (I survived on Shape yoghurt and packets of Skips) but put it all back on again.
After this week's up the plan is to eat a bit more sensibly and I'd like to lose a total of 2 stone by the end of March. I'm probably looking at losing 6 stone in total again and I'd be delighted if I did this by the end of the year.
Don't really wanna give my starting weight...it's appalling :-(
Good luck everyone with their weight loss goals!! :-)0 -
Hi, i'd like to join as well - I started 7/1, and my goal was 3 stone by May, so looking at 10 weeks, and attempting to be looking at (with luck!) 1.5 - 2 stone gone by end of March - I started on 16st 4, and so far have gotton down to 15st 8 - official weigh in is Sunday, and i'm sadly aware of the fact my weight might plateau a bit now, so putting in more excercise to counterbalance a bit!
So far, i've cut out white bread, fizzy drinks (bar my 'treat' - 1 small bottle of weight watchers lemonade a week), and reduced my carbs severely as possible, which I am finding hard. I'm also doing half an hour on the rowing machine 5 times a week as well as walking around a lot and using myfitnesspal app on my phone
Good luck everyone with your goals x~*Cerenia*~
