No weight loss this week. No nuts, no lunchtime clementine and no wine next week.

My problem is that I've lost a little over four stone since last March and I may just have plateaued, or, I've been working out more and muscle gain could be counteracting fat loss. Fortunately I took measurements last week and will do so again in three weeks and see if there's a change in waist, arms & legs.

  • Hiya, I know I am a bit late but would like to join if possible. I have lost roughly a stone over recent months but have stalled and put on 2llbs last week.

I too am not following a specific plan but I try to do the Paul McKenna thing and eat slowly and consciously and stop when full. This has gone out of the window recently though. I would like to lose a stone over the next 10 weeks. Starting weight id 15 stone 3 llbs. Have been rubbish this weekend but in my defence not feeling great. Aiming to get out for a walk tomorrow so hope the weather will keep up.

Just heading off to subscribe to the thread.

    Another 1lb off this week.

I've done no exercise whatsoever this week so must try harder to fit it in.

Oftentimes the body will reach a weight and pause for a while. It's like it has had enough and wants to take a breather. Weight loss will usually start again if you stick with the plan. However, to kickstart it, you will need to change something like miss out a meal or two a couple of times a week, known as intermittent fasting. I tend to go without an evening meal on Sundays after having my usual breakfast and cooked Sunday Lunch.

Hi, hope it's okay if I join late? I'm using an online food diary called myplate, and just restricting my calorie intake rather than following a particular diet. I find the food diary is a really good discipline, and I've lost about 10 lbs since the beginning of January, some of it probably water.

I'm eating an average of about 1200 calories a day and doing about 400 calories of exercise a day. I must say that I feel much better and more energetic since losing the weight/being on the diet.

  • Hi All,

Another late starter but I would love to join you. I had to lie down to do my jeans up yesterday so that was the moment I thought it's time to do something about this! In the last 18mths my weight has gone from 72kg up to 82kg. I'd say the main causes have been lack of regular exercise and snacking in between meals (chocolate, crisps, biscuits - I'm the type who keeps eating until the packet is empty) plus 1-2 alcoholic drinks a few nights a week. I don't know how much it contributes to weight gain but work has also been particularly stressful the last year too however that is improving and the regular exercise will help my stress levels. So I hope by signing up here and posting regularly on my progress it will give me the momentum to keep going plus reading all of your experiences and tips is very motivating and will help keep me on track.

So my plan is to follow a healthy eating regime over the next ten weeks and make sure I do regular exercise. I'm not approaching this as a diet but a change in my lifestyle. My first goal is getting my weight down to 75kg and maintaining this and then getting to 72kg.
So week 1 I will limit my intake of carbohydrates, sugar and dairy and all chocolate, crisps, biscuits are gone except for one dark chocolate 6g disc a day. No alcohol.
    Typical meals will be
Breakfast - NigeWick I'm going to try your idea of an omelette with spinach, brown mushrooms and courgette.
Lunch - salad with tuna, salmon or chicken (no dressing)
Dinner - salmon, chicken or lean red meat with vegetables/brown rice.
Snacks - celery, cucumber sticks or a handful of almonds/hazelnuts/walnuts. Stewed apple and yoghurt when I need something sweet.
Drinks - water, fruit tea and limit coffee to 2 cups a day if I can manage it.
I was advised to avoid eating a lot of fruit, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, parsnips or potatoes as these are all high in sugars.
I hope I haven't made this too rigid but I'm an all or nothing type of person.

My weight today is 82.2kg and I completed 30mins on the cross trainer before breakfast.
At the moment I'm feeling enthusiastic and looking forward to seeing what I can achieve and following everyone elses progress! All the best :)
  • Hey id like to join too if i may, Just spent the last hour doing a couple of dance mat computer games (very retro i know). I hope to be down a dress size and 14lbs lighter by the end of the challenge.

Cutting down on naughty foods like sweets/chocolates/crisps mainly and vastly reducing bread and cereal consumption.
    Good luck everyone

I don't snack nowadays as I have nutritious food at meal times. Stewed apple will have sugar in it just from the apple alone.

I am presuming you're looking at low carb foods to eat. Red peppers should be fine. Carrots, parsnips and spuds will have carbohydrates that are burned as sugars. Plus, Paleo Purists say that tomatoes & potatoes are Nightshades and should be avoided. I eat them. I also eat the others on your list but only in moderation. Nuts ARE lovely but very high in calories so a handful could be a couple of hundred calories or more depending on the size of your hand and if you heap them up!

I decided to have a treat every day as long as I include it in my calorie count. 125gms of Aldi's 70% cocoa solid chocolate is the daily one and I drink wine three days a week. I did say that I would stop the wine but I've changed my mind. I'll go back to keeping a food & calorie diary and count the wine into my daily allowance.

I am also going to increase the amount of exercise I do as I do not get hungry now. However, that means I will have to make sure I eat properly after a strength training session.

Oh. My understanding is that potatoes and parsnips are best restricted, but carrots, tomatoes, and peppers can be eaten in large quantities. For example, 1Kg of tomatoes contains around 200 calories. Bear in mind that 1Kg is an awful lot of tomatoes - over 12 servings!

Likewise, carrots and peppers are fine. Sure, they contain more calories than celery or cucumber, but you have to eat something. On the other hand, nuts are deadly for a diet. They contain roughly 30 times as many calories as tomatoes, for the same weight, and they won't fill you up !
