Calories are all very well, but if the choice was an apple or nuts, nut win every time.
I also agree! I think the key is moderation. I know a lot of diet plans are about having free foods, or low cal foods that you can eat loads of and nuts don't fall into this category. But this doesn't mean they have no value in a diet. Also nuts should be eaten raw and unsalted/flavoured etc I think (correct me if I'm wrong NigeWick).Kitchen Debt - 2820/260Save £12k in 2013 #060: 1293.24/3000MFW: 88760.00/85000.00 (4.24% paid)0 -
Okay, I give in.
I should have said that nuts are great, but you have to be careful not to eat too many. If you are out in the hills burning up 400-500 calories an hour, I think they are a great, concentrated source of energy. However, if you are sedentary and casually grab a handful of nuts as a snack because you feel a bit peckish, you need to make sure that's a really small handful.
"Calories are all very well, but if the choice was an apple or nuts, nut win every time." Bear in mind that you can't have many nuts for the same calories as an apple. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
A very interesting nut discussion. I graze at my desk for most of the day, and have substituted the crisps, choc etc for nuts, predominantly walnuts; and more than just a handful.
Any suggestions for a grazer?
Not a wonderful day today, there still seems to be festive choc around the office which I found difficult to resist.
I did redeem myself at the last minute by doing an hour in the pool this evening.

It's strange cause for me the nuts would win over the apple, I only have 25g per day but I do enjoy them
Weighed myself and slowly the weight is coming off , I think I still need to tweak what I am eating as I have had to stop running and I'm still eating like I am running, I also gave up coffee again( really need to try and stay off that) and have had severe constipation that has led to other issues ( blood loss) since ... I'm trying to combat this with extra veggies ( was having 5-7 portions per day previously ) and instead if one added spoonful if fibre in my porridge I will have two
I'm going to the dr on Friday as well to see about getting some help in that dept should I need it again
Keep going everyone we will get there in the end0 -

Once I'm down to the look I want, I will be eating more nuts of several different types. I love 'em!The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

I really like roast Chestnuts and remember thinking as a youngster how much better they tasted roasted. It's just possible that the difference in taste of certain raw/cooked foods could be an indicator health benefits. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

I used to be a snacker but never feel the need nowadays. I will give myself a treat when I think I've deserved it though.
There is a theory that we should eat five or six small meals during the course of the day. Is that logical? Our hunter gatherer ancestors would probably not have eaten until they got back from the day's hunting/foraging. They may have breakfast if there were any leftovers and then nothing until dinner's cooked. In hard times they would have to live off body fat for a time too. Our DNA hasn't altered much, if at all, since then and it makes sense to me that we should not need to constantly graze. That said, I would be amazed if they didn't eat a berry or ten as they were gathering. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

YAY! Felt like getting on the scales this morning. 12st 13lbs. I was 13st 1lb just before Christmas and believe I put about three on over the festivities as I was 13st 4lbs the first week of January. I was concerned that I had not lost anything last week, but, 5lbs in four weeks isn't so bad.The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

You don't think that they would have eaten berries and things as they were passing by? They must have had more will-power than me.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
