  • Wow well done Wantahouse!! That's a really impressive start.

I am on my first healthy snack of the day....an apple :)

I don't normally count walking the dog as exercise but 40mins of tramping around in 8inches of snow really made my legs ache so must have done some good!!

OH is away for work today and tomorrow so with doing the evening dog walks as well I am unlikely to get to the gym. Freezer food tonight, got some nice chilli in there somewhere that I made a couple weeks back.

Also got some leeks so leek and potato soup to make for lunches as well. I always find a big problem is that I get home from work super hungry (at around 6) and it makes me eat a snack as soon as I get in rather than wait till I've cooked something, anyone have any tips for avoiding this? Having a coffee when I get in can help but I don't really enjoy hot drinks that much so it's not an option I use often! Advice appreciated, thanks guys!

Hi there, just a weight update (didn't get on here over the weekend)
Stayed the same, bit disappointed, but will keep at it. Gym limited this week tho due to weather conditions
Nigewick - just a quick question and apologies if ive missed this how can you tell you are burning fat? or is it purely that you are not putting the other 'stuff' in, so your body has to burn fat??? thanks Natbags

The idea is that you cut right down on carbohydrates and cut out grains completely as they damage our internals to varying degrees. My older daughter is Coeliac and there's quite a high percentage of people with that and a general gluten intolerance. When I hit 17st 2lbs at 5'11" I looked round for a food regime that I could follow for life. On doing my research I found the Paleo/Primal/Caveman/Low Carbohydrate diet. Stopping eating grains made perfect sense to me as we've only been doing this in any quantity for about 10,000 years. By cutting right down on carbs the body stops using carbs/sugars for fuel and goes over to burning fat which is the way we're apparently designed. This too made sense as if we're meant to burn fat then putting on fat in times of plenty makes perfect sense.

Before I started eating the way I do, I would get the shakes at 12:00 and 17:00 if I didn't eat. Now I can miss out a meal or three and still not be overly bothered by hunger. This is because my body burns fat and not carbs/sugars. I don't know exactly how long the process takes but I would give it a month to be on the safe side.

So to answer your question:- If you cut right down on carbs and eat as close as you can get to the way hunter gatherers did, you will not feel raging hunger at meal times. So yes, you are forcing your body to burn fat as it is supposed to.

Hia, I would also like to join. I am not following a diet as such, smaller portions and less snacking, more water when i think i am hungry. Getting my exercise up, as my incentive to lose weight and be fitter si that i have signed up for Tough Mudder in august. its a 10 mile asault course.

I will be back with what i weigh now and a hopefully realistic goal of what i aim to be.
Weight wise tho is not my main concern, more body shape and fitness level

I know i am around 13 stone, which is masive for my 5'5ish frame. according to boots machine, my optimum weight should be just under 8 stone. long term i will be aiming for about 8 and a half, as i know my body looks healthy at that, anything under and i start to see my bones sticking out!

  • Hmmm bad day yesterday!! Was a bit lazy and bought food instead of making it. But back on track today, and weigh in tomorrow so will see how it goes! How is everyone else doing? For those not on the target page yet I will update later on today.

Weigh in 61.5, so 0.5 on??? Not sure how as I have been very good
May have to look at diet a bit closer if it doesn't start moving next week. Did try from Oct - Xmas and pretty much stayed the same but thought a little more focus in Jan may help - maybe not!

I also followed a Paleo eating plan last year and it worked well. I lost my mid afternoon slump and generally had more energy. Am lactose intolerant and wheat doesn't seem to sit too well with me either so this life style addressed these problems and my daily upset stomach pretty much disappeared.
    :)

I have a severe intolorance to cow products - no beef, milk, cheese, or anything made with any part of the cow added to it. And i also suffer if i eat too much bread. I am ok with what i have for breakfast cereal wise, but if i then add in some rolls or bread at lunch time a day or 2 in a row, im ill! Makes for an expensive food alternative. We drink goats milk which is fine for us.

I am aiming for a more hunter/gatherer approach to our food. but tbh, we eat loads of fruit and veg, in season as its cheaper, small amounts of meat and fish throughout the week, our downfall is pasta. i dont buy many biscuits, crisps or sweets. milk we only have for cereal. i dont drink tea much. not a big drinker, used to indulge in what is now called binge drinking - work all week and go to the pub/bar at the weekend, now i will have one or 2 drinks throughout the week or none at all. makes no difference to me.

If your weight is staying the same, and you are not eating much more than you should for you r body type/frame etc then maybe going for a 10 min walk extra could start to see it decrease?

I need to start making a fitness plan and get started. my work have cut down my mail drop off/pick ups from 5 a week to 2 starting this week. that was my only guarenteed 30-40 mins (speed walking) exercise for during the week. will need to make time for it outside of work, whch means i will prob be doing it in my sleep haha
