Well done NigeWick! I am struggling at the moment, stuck at 65.5kg. Having been doing any running this week as I have a cold and it's just wiped me out! Being good with lunches, not so good with dinners so far but planning on a butternut squash stirfry tonight so nice and healthy!

I walked 6 miles on each of Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, so that's good. Weight going down, but not as fast as when I started dieting.

I had to go to a big dinner on Sunday, so I just had two apples all day beforehand - really not recommended, and I'd far rather not have gone.

Well done, Nigel, and stick with it Nicola! :)

    Edit: And 6 miles today.

  • I've had a few weeks off due to my routine being messed up (any excuse not to exercise). On Sunday I weighed in at 10st 1lb, so at least I havne't gained back any weight and went in the right direction.

My target date is March 17th and I need to lose another 4lbs to hit my target. I'm back on track now so hopefully I'll be able to lose that. Then I'm going to continue on until the end of May as I have a wedding and I'd like to be down another 7lbs by then. But for now, my focus is that 4lbs!!!!

Exercise doesn't really help lose weight for mortals as we get hungry and eat more. It takes a lot of exercise to shift weight. Far easier to eat less calories in higher quality food.

Once one loses a bit of weight it becomes easier to exercise but I don't see the point of wasting time on it. I walk to town for shopping five days a week, do one hard strength training session a week that takes 15 minutes and intermittently whack out some press ups, sit ups, squats and dips. I do 30 press ups against the side of the bath every morning taking less than a minute. 25 dips between two chairs while my omelette is cooking, another minute. and 30 sit ups and squats when the mood takes me, another couple of minutes.

Nigel, I like my walks. :)

Surely if one wants to be fit/enjoys exercise there is plenty of reason to "waste time" on it, not to mention stress relief, social aspect and a lot of health benefits! It seems quite narrow minded to think of exercise as purely a weight loss activity.

I actually find for me that exercise does help me lose weight and I certainly don't eat more when I exercise - I drink more water but I don't eat more. I'm on a diet, I stick to my meal plan for the day and exercise. On weeks I only stick to the diet I may only lose 1lbs or just stay the same but on a week were I've included exercise I'll lose 2-3lbs . I know exercise works for me. Not to mention its good for me and makes me feel happier and healthier all round. I do 20mins a day nothing major, but I know for sure that it contributes to my weightloss. And when my diet is over, I stick to the exercise plan and I don't gain any weight back. Exercise is definitely an essential element of me losing weight.

Me too! I assess youngsters doing their Duke Of Edinburgh Award expeditions in the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. I also help out doing the same for the local grammar school. This year the Gold teams are going to the Dales for their practice and Lakes District for their assessed expeditions.

I was just saying that exercise does not necessarily mean weight loss. Rather cutting down on useless calories does. OTOH, I'm not sure my red wine and single malts are completely useless as I enjoy them. Why isn't there a wine/single malt smiley?!

I've almost entirely cut alcohol out of my diet - just 2 or 3 units a week now, compared to 3 or 4 a day previously. It seems to be an easy way to save calories.

My weight's hovering - I gained 2lbs last week, but lost 2 inches off bust and waist, and 1.5 inches off hips - probally due to working out 6 times a week. However weighed this morning to sneaky peek (official day is Sunday), and back to 15 st 4 - I'm hoping to try and shift another 1lb or 2lb before Sunday! Have upped my calories and its been working!
