I'd stay exactly where I am too as although I live for my holz & spend much of my life daydreaming about my next holiday, I do believe that it's just a dream & it wouldn't do to live in any of the beautiful places that I've visited. Plus I've moved away before & I so missed this old hole, & I never thought I would.

    Hi all!

We'd all love to live the dream and retire early, where would you choose to do it and why?

I would chill out in Thailand, - beautiful beaches, amazing food and friendly people.. :j

But I haven't seen enough of the world yet and need some fuel for my imagination... Where would you go?
Somewhere nice and sunny where it never snowed!!

The town of San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye in Belize. I spent 2 years here in late 80s during time in forces and fell in love with it. I have been back many times and now counting the years (4 to go) until I retire and move there permanently. http://ambergriscaye.com/pages/town/town.html
  • Oahu - Hawaii :) 28 degrees all year round with a nice breeze. Beautiful beaches and mountains..feels exotic but has also has all the fab US stores that I love to shop in! *sigh*

So every day dreamer on this thread has been somewhere "nice" for maybe two weeks "holiday" and they now think it would be nice to live there

Think about can\if you get a UK pension where you are?

Ok so you're rich and don't need income  How about health care?

    Can you speak the language?

Can you actually retire there or is there an emargo on foreigners?

Is there an "honest" Police force\Government? [Impossible I know but at least relatively honest]

The grass is always greener on the other side ;)

    Me?

I'd sign up to Housesitting worldwide and live in other peoples places but still have some (tenuous) roots here for when I get old and feeble:o

It would be hard to choose between SE Asia or West Africa so I would split my time between the two. If I had to choose a location in the UK it would be between Kent or North Wales. I am so ready to retire right now and just need to figure out this passive income thing out...

Totally get your point but I think the idea of this thread was more about fantasy than practicality. If we were even considering retiring to any of the places I've mentioned then DH & I would look into every aspect before going.

And, to be truthful, if grandchildren come along, which, please God, won't be for a long time yet, I don't honestly know if I could leave the UK for any serious amount of time, never mind retire too far away.

Your housesitting idea is a good one, do companies providing that service actually exist?
