If you could retire early and live anywhere - where would it be?

There's loads more besides that.
The country is a ticking time-bomb!0 -
The town of San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye in Belize. I spent 2 years here in late 80s during time in forces and fell in love with it. I have been back many times and now counting the years (4 to go) until I retire and move there permanently. http://ambergriscaye.com/pages/town/town.html
This place looks amazing! I'm hoping to get over to Central America next year and will make sure I swing by here. I can see why Madonna sang about it.. Stunning!£2013 challenge for 2013 £2013/2013 :j0 -
Have been pondering this for years but my opinion has changed over time. Initially would have liked to buy in Orlando. DH is former castmember and we know the area well, spending a month or so a year there. However the place is changing and I'm not sure I'd want to retire there now, not least due to the cost of healthcare.
So my next choice would be Melbourne. I grew up there and have family in Australia (incl Melbourne). Unfortunately the £/$ and the cost of housing may mean that one has to go on the back burner. Plus I want to maintain regular face-to-face contact with my family here.
So that leaves Barcelona, my favourite city. If we could get a little apartment with a couple of bedrooms, not far from Barcelona but outside of the city so you can enjoy the rest of Catalunya, well that would be perfect. I'd want to learn Catalan too. I can't see the point in moving somewhere and not speaking the language. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Penang
...
I love Penang for a short visit but I don't think I could live there permanently. I could, however, imagine a life of duty free retirement on Langkawi.
On balance though, it would have to be Thailand. Probably hopping between apartment in central Bangkok and a beach-side villa on one of the quieter islands.0 -

I'll let you know what Prachuap Khiri Khan is like shortly, between Hua Hin and Chumphon. Got 6 nights there 24 Feb - 1 Mar, it looks blissful!0 -
