Yeah - if I'm going to retire anywhere it's got to have cheap beer! :beer:0 -

New Zealand has too many racial problems and will boil over in the years to come, best to take a pause and think again.0 -

Anywhere away from RIP OFF BRITAIN.
Have you actually spent any length of time overseas? You'll find that in many respects Britain is quite a cheap place to live. Some things are expensive here (transport and housing especially) but other things are really quite cheap, especially relative to local salaries.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

Many of the basics are expensive in the UK, Housing, transport, utility bills, booze etc. the things you don't really NEED (expensive mobile contracts to chatter endlessly about F*** all) can be cheapish though.
You can always name somewhere more expensive, motoring in Singapore, housing in Hong Kong, booze in Norway etc but the basics in the UK are too expensive for many because of the standard of living they expect (although often don't actually work hard enough to really earn.)0 -

So the things that you need, ie transport and housing (dont forget food) are expensive, but the UK is a cheap place to live. That doesnt compute
But thats off topic, its not what the OP asked0 -

I actually said rip off britain..I was referring to Tax, VAT,Food,Gas,Electricity,Water, and Crap wages to pay for it all.
So by going to warmer cilimes (in retirement)would save an absolute fortune in itself.0 -

Can agree with this bitCrap wages to pay for it all.
The developing world is catching up very quickly so as a nation Britain has to get used to this, they can, or soon will be able to do everything (more or less) that we can now only better and cheaper.
Most people in the UK live way beyond their worth in the world today.0
