Hmmn, I can't pin it down - somewhere by the sea, but not too commercialised, and within an hour of Heathrow. Or Cape Cod, same criteria ...

I can even picture the houses - different for each location, but just ... perfect. ;)

Touring around Europe in my Motorhome.

I think after a year or so, you would have a good idea of where you want to put down your roots.

    .....
Funnily enough, having recently decided not to work until I drop to continue feathering the nests of those dearest to me, I've been thinking about this very subject and what is scary is the realisation that it is doable within reason.

If money were not an issue, I'd retire to a small estate in Scotland, just enough land for a mixed bag of game and sufficient fishing rights to fill my days and I'd travel as the want took me.

If we are talking reality, for me it would have to be Asia, Malaysia or Indonesia, then use it as a base to explore, but only for 10 years, say work to 55, ten years overseas, then back to the UK.

My choice would be based on the love of Asia and that a reasonably healthy spending allowance a month for 10 years would see me living OK in Asia and still leave me in good shape financially when I returned at 65. :)

exactly where I am now. This is my roots, man.
I'd still travel a lot but you can't beat England to come home to, why do you think everyone else wants to live here too?

We had this choice following being made redundant when 50. The main problem with choosing was trying not to be too far away from family, parents, children and grandchildren who were being born. So we went to france, rural not in the tourist areas.
It was the best decision we could have made, however, now we have retired we are back in the UK, closer to aged parents and growing up grandchildren. Plus the UK has so much to offer us retirees, U3A, W.I. Probus, and much much more. So it all depends on the individual and the stage in heir life they at at.
