What implement did the member of staff "making the snack" have in their hands.

Yes, that's the first thing that came to my mind yesterday when I first read this thread, but didn't like to say :o

  • The was no toys or anything around because it happened just after tidy up time. The lady that was doing snack was the other side of the room so would of been no where near him x

So there was no cutlery involved?

  • I do not know what the lady had when she was doing snack but I have been told she was the other end of the room while it happened. I have been told there was nothing around him and he wasn't holding anything either.

Well there must have been. He didn't get a hole pierced in his earlobe by nothing and a hole going right through the middle is a whole different kettle of fish from skin splitting due to impact.

  • I know there must be something missing from this situation his injury couldn't of been done by just force.

This is why I put my post up because what there saying how he did it does not match his injuries.

I'm just wondering what I can do next as I so believe that something else has either happened or he had hold of something that he shouldn't of.

Just not sure what my next steps are after I receive the full report.

I think the report itself will give you a much better idea of what happens next. You may receive it, and feel that you are happy with the explanation given in it and happy that the nursery have notified and taken the advice of anyone they are meant to. See what the report says and then you can think on it for a bit, and get further comments on here perhaps. While accidents do happen, the nursery will want you to also be happy with the way that it has handled things because they will know that you potentially will chat with other parents.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

So tough when they hurt themselves and you aren't around to see it, you imagine/think all manner of things.

Definitely worth checking all the dressing up items in the box - broken fairy wings can be a potential hazard I am sure as they can be quite sharp?

Also the plate idea about sounds plausible...

Perhaps best to wait for the report from the manager, and then see whether they are going to review their procedures. If OFSTED are going to be informed as well, you can then approach them if you need to with all the right information.

    Extract from an Ofsted factsheet:

You must notify us about where a child in your care is taken to hospital (to an Accident and Emergency Department for more than 24 hours), either directly from your provision, or later, as the result of something that happened while the child was in your care.

The nursery are not required to notify Ofsted but will probably do so for their own peace of mind.

However as the parent, if you are not happy with the outcome of the report, you are encouraged to complain to the nursery and if they fail to address the complaint adequately, Ofsted can then be contacted.

Your son sounds okay from things you have said, and accidents happen. Just this week a child fell / slipped / tripped as they walked passed me (I was knelt on the floor). Bumped their head on the floor and although I was right there (kneeling on the floor) I was unable to catch them.
  • I do understand you're upset, but calm down. Kids have accidents, it's just that simple. My son had to have his head glued when he tripped over last year. Would I ever blame them?! No, it could've happened at home too or outside. As long as he's ok now, I'd just forget about it.
