iPhone 5 vs S3

Options
I'm due for an upgrade at the end of this month (never signing a 24mnth contract again) and have the option of a new iPhone or S3.
I've had the iPhone 4 and 4s so I'm comfortable with the Apple layout and usability, but the S3 does look amazing. Anyone with the S3 care to share the pro's and con's of the phone i.e. battery life, apps, usability?

Thanks in advance

Software wise, Touchwiz is not my favourite flavour of Android, but you do gain massive amounts of customization potential over iOS.

Apps wise, the Play Store has come on well in the last year and there is plenty of content. Similarly I have also enjoyed the native scaling in apps like Words With Friends whereas my iPhone/iPad toting friends have had to pay twice.

I'm not a fan of Samsung's build quality though, the plastic on the S3 feels cheap and not very well built compared to my HTC. Also already had to help one friend already whose LCD shattered in their hand whilst they were using it.

Battery life I can't really go into much detail as I don't own one, but my work colleague has found that it markedly improved on his when he turned Wifi/Network Location off. Seems to be a Jelly Bean thing as I got a similar experience on my Nexus 7.
  • Thanks, the only aspect of the Android that intrigued me was the ability to customise the iOS. I think i'll stick with Apple on this.
  • So, no consideration that it is far cheaper to go with android also?

The inclusion of Google Now with Android Jelly Bean is wonderful

Customize IOS versus customise Android .
No contest Android is far more customizable .

Personally i prefer TW over stock Android ..
But SGS3 can always have stock Android flashed .

Build quality i would say not as good as Apple but its not something that bothers me .

Battery life no idea as my use is so mixed and a spare battery is only £15-.

Apple is a religion, so the Galaxy S3 running Android must be the choice.
  • S3 unless you dont mind paying almost double per month

Q: What's the best, iPhone 5 or Samsung galaxy s3?
A: Everything points to Galaxy S3.
Reply: Thanks for that I'll stick with apple.

Brilliant! Religion is correct, nowhere else do you find this logic :-P
  • Depends how big your pocket/handbag is. The S3 is huge by comparison with the iPhone 5.

I looked at both and opted for the iPhone. Mine is used for mail (Gmail app), Skype and as a phone. Some users report problems with Skype on Android, not sure why.

Battery life is awful, but from speaking to other "Smart Phone" users, their phones are also anything but smart when it comes to battery life... We all seem to need a daily charging routine. The iPhone doesn't have a user swappable battery and uses a nano sized SIM.

Check out what apps are available and what you may need.

    s3 battery life....
took it off charge at 7am, switched on bluetooth for an hour or so on my journey to work. reached work, normally check mail, use gmail talk with wife throughout the day, occasionally go on FB during lunch hours or break. Leave work at 5pm, switched on bluetooth for an hour or so with music streaming to car.

around 7pm, use phone whilst putting son to bed, FB, news, games for around 30 to 60 minutes. By the time I go to bed at 10pm, normally around 40% battery left still.
