  • Eek, narrow escape in Dunelm Mill, where I saw about £20 worth of things we 'really need. I had actually picked some of them up, and then I gave myself a good talking to and put all but one thing back. Total spent = £1.99, on a lamshade for a broken lamp for the guest bedroom (definitely needed as our weekend guests had to use the lamp with a bare bulb. :)

The lamp itself was salvaged from the loft when we moved into this house, so all in all, it is a cheap (and now quite nice) way to solve the problem of the light switch being outside the room, which isn't ideal when someone is sleeping in there.

I'm taking them down again in June, so they can attend his wedding (to which, of course, I am not invited), and bf can't even come, so I'll either have to sleep on the floor in my empty house, or if it's sold by then, stay in a hotel on my own.

Snaggs, can BF not come because he is busy? If not and you will need to rent a hotel room can't you take BF with you and make a weekend of it :D It doesn't have to be expensive if you find free things to do/cheap restraunts. Then Ex gets what he wants (children at the wedding) while you arn't feeling sorry for yourself miles away from BF?

Yep, he's busy. :( He's in a Shakespeare production, and it's the weekend of the final performance, so he can't even just make polite excuses and not be there. Ex hadn't told me the date of his wedding when bf agreed to be in the production, otherwise making a weekend of it would have been really nice.

It'll be ok though; I will just [STRIKE]go shopping, eat take away and buy a Kindle for entertainment[/STRIKE] go for walks, have a picnic and read a book.

    Good afternoon!

Today has been a good day so far. I have been on a course for work, which was supposed to finish at 4pm and finished at 3pm instead. I resisted the urge to head to Princes St to browse the shops, and came home instead.

I got home to a letter from my solicitor, saying that they have sent the documents for the sale of my property to the buyer's solicitor (actually, they said 'buyers solicitor', which annoyed the pedant in me a little bit, but if they get this house sale through, I am not going to quibble!), so I now have an anxious wait to see if the chain holds up and exchange/completion goes ahead.

I also had a letter waiting for me from Scottish Power, who are my energy provider at my old house. They have been charging me some quite eyewatering amounts per month, but must have been to read my meter and have sent me a refund cheque for....£626!!

I am completely over the moon, because all being well I won't end up in more debt this month, and I can make it through to payday without ending up in a sobbing heap at the state of my bank balance. :o

(They haven't said they're going to reduce my direct debit though...oh well!)

I feel really bloody lucky. Having spent years struggling to pay the bills on one (part-time) income, and then months without a job after moving to Edinburgh, watching my very small amount of savings drain away to (literally) nothing, a month without money stress is something I am very grateful for.

Good news about the refund Snags - are you not tempted to cancel the dd and just let them bill you when the sale goes through ? Well done on avoiding the shops too :) xx

I am a bit tempted, but my parents are popping by the house every so often to check on it, and they use electricity, put the heating on for a bit etc, so I don't want to risk being cut off. I could ring and ask them to reduce the direct debit, but I am such a coward about ringing anyone. I have to speak to people on the phone all the time at work, but dealing with my own finances/bills makes me panic. :o

    I know, I am ridiculous. :)
