I'm a bit superstitious about borrowing to buy an piece of jewellery, I always felt it brought bad luck, but maybe the couples who borrowed to buy the ring in the first place would have split up anyway as they were destined to have other problems, not just ones with money.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2298511.htm if your dh had brought that home in a beaverbrooks box would you have known any different?

My eternity ring came from Beaverbrooks, but tbh I only wear it for special occasions because I'm scared it will get lost/damaged.
Our wedding rings were 30 each, my engagement ring about 130 but dh splashed out a bit on the eternity ring..but I waited 5 years for it...

If it is going to cause problems then imho it's not worth it. Just my 2P

I have no expensive jewellery at all. Wedding Ring was £50 from Argos and I do have a watch and braclet set that was about £150.

I keep telling OH that I need some diamonds and decent jewellery. I also joke with him that I need to have decent stuff to leave my daughters when I die and as I have 4 girls, I need a lot of diamonds.

He says no. He says no a lot!

PS - Would never get into debt for jewellery. Chocolate and a holiday to Paris maybe.................(joking!)

Hmmm, I'm undecided as I've always been far too tight to consider spending much on bling or holidays etc. I have two lovely rings which unfortunately I inherited from my nan and mum. I also had mum's eternity ring, but it was too frail to reduce in size. What I did was to gather together some old gold jewellery and my local jeweller made me a solid gold bangle. He then planted the 7 small diamonds from the eternity ring into the bangle. What I've ended up with is a beautiful bangle full of sentiment (used some gold jewellery DH had bought me years earlier in it too). It cost around £120 to have done (but that included extra gold I needed to make it a good weight), and is valued at around £600. But, most of all, it means a lot to me and is beautiful. However, I love that style of eternity ring your link goes to, and wouldnt mind finishing my hand off with one at some point :D

  • have you considered getting it from america?
seeing as our pound is worth about 2 dollars at the moment you could get a lot more for your money...

i know of people on some wedding forums ive been on that designed their own, hade it made and shipped over and it all cost less than a trip to a jewellers in your local highstreet and meant a lot more to them as they decided exactly what they wanted instead of picking the best of the choice in the window.

i have lots of jewellery from birthdays& special occasions which is expensive some which i have got for myself and some from mum & dad but my most precious and favourite item of all is a £12 ring with a small pink heart from debenhams which my dh got me and a heart shaped necklace from river island dh got me 2 birthdays ago.I keep these in my special jeweellry box and to me these are the most expensive items I own because they were chosen with love and thought for me.I don't care about jewellery it doesn't mean anything i have him and to me he's the rare diamond i will always love to own.

I have a few pieces of valuable quality jewellery, notably my engagement and eternity rings (you can tell we didn't have kids then!)

I'd shy away from buying from a (pardon the pun) chain of jewellers, and go to a small independant-you will get a much higher quality piece, and there will be room for negotiation on price.

My engagement and eternity rings are both antique, from c1900, and I know that NO ONE has a piece the same-do you really want to spend all that money, and know that when yours is taken from the display, it will be replaced by an identical one for the next customer?

the most expensive piece of jewellry i have is my eternity ring my hubby bought it for me last year from a place called chappelle at mcarthur glen i went in and chose 2 rings and then hubby went in and chose one of them the cheapest one was £120 and hubby chose the more expensive one which was £170 they did not have my ring size in stock so i had mine especially made for me in canada which i think is lovely i was married for 9 years before i had it and my engagement ring only cost £35 and my wedding ring i had from goldsmiths and that cost £70

    I agree with Amandada

Have you thought of choosing a ring from someone who designs jewellery, this need not be very expensive but could be unique. Maybe it is just me but I would rather have a beautiful, unusual ring that cost few pounds than a showy, expensive ring, that has many identical copies.

Its maybe about different ways of thinking.

What will getting the ring actually mean to you.
    What will it give you?
