Have been and picked my first decent crop of strawberries this morning....yum but have noticed my garlic has died. Not quite sure what I have done wrong with it as have had success in the past.?
Was a dead rat laid out on its back yuck!! so got a spade and flicked it over fence. Might go back this afternoon as there are large areas of weeds(away from all my fruit and veg ) that need some attention before they take over plot. Got some weedol delivered from amazon so as we look like having a dry day I ought to go get started.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
MBE I hope I am not too late to tell you this, but you should not let rhubarb run to seed or it will weaken the plant. If you want more plants wait until the spring and then as the first buds appear take a spade and slice a large chunk off the root ensuring that you have at least one bud on it. Then, leaving the parent plant in the ground dig up the bit you`ve sliced off and replant in a new spot. Leave it for at least a year, preferably two to get established before harvesting.0

Day 3 of new shed has had neighbours suggesting we have a house warming party in it!
It does look big but within regulations
Don't think it will be finished by tomorrow as building using wood, rather than constructing a pre fab is noisy and next door have 2 under 5's that go to bed at 8pm, so we stop and clear up at 7.30ish.
So today 4 beams cut and bolted to the bottom and 4 to the top of the uprights forming an 8 x 6 x 6 cube. Wood added to walls on 3 sides and floor joists down.
Tomorrow is floor down, door and window beams in and wood on walls at the front.
It's the roof that my not get done, the hours lost yesterday were needed.
I'm going to paint the inside with white emulsion to reflect light, unless anyone knows why I shouldn't?
Found 5 ready to eat yellow raspberries and very tasty they were too, 2 more strawberries and I've taken the silly shaped cucumber off the plant as it's wasting energy.0 -

Well, I know they say that but I don't really buy it. I let my Timperley Early flower a couple of seasons ago and it's as big and strong as ever. The Stockbridge Arrow is a great big plant too, and I'm sure it won't hurt it. I wouldn't let a small plant flower, but this one's big enough to cope. I'm not after more plants myself (no room!) but I want to post the seed to someone. I know they don't always come true to type, as does the recipient, but he doesn't mind and I'm happy to help.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

The nice weather prompted industry in the jelly garden over the weekend.
Repotted the growing tomato plants. They'll only need moving up one more time.
I repotted the last of my chillis from the tray they were in. However having repotted some on saturday, when I was repotting sunday, some of the already repotted ones looked distinctly the worse for wear. I'm not sure many will succeed...
Planted out the onions that were in pots in the greenhouse.
A couple of the carrot tubs have also been planted out.
I think I no longer have room to plant anything else out.
Project eradicate every blimmin weed kicked in again with major force & resulted in backache.
Also finally got around to giving the lawns a much needed mow. Composters are now full again.
Need to plant some more lettuce this week, & also get the cucumbers planted into the ground (saved a space for them). It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I haven't posted since May. It's now five weeks since my hip replacement and at last I've managed to get onto the veg patch in the last few days:rotfl:. It feels wonderful to be out of the house after being housebound for the last 18months, I'm doing nothing too strenuous, just gentle pottering,
Found a load of strawberries under some docks. I cut back the docks using secaters and will take out strawberry plants to transfer to a 'clean bed' then I aim to glyphosate docks, probably will take me another week to do all that as I still walk with two sticks and bending over is still difficult to do.
Slowly slowly is the name of the game but I'll get there. I have a feeling I have some carrot seed in the greenhouse and possibly some french beans - I might give those a go as they always grow well here.
I can't explain just how fantastic it is to spend half an hour at a time pottering - I have missed it so much
The aforesaid strawberries are now on the shelf as 'JAM' - great on rice pudding.0 -
Relieved to say that of my 30 chilli plants it appears that only 6 didn't make it.
Planted some more lettuce yesterday too. Will have to plant another batch at the weekend. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Hello
D'you mind if I join you?
I've spent the last 2 evenings reading through this thread. I'm quite late to this serious gardening malarkey, having only decided to get a greenhouse at the beginning of May. Just getting that sorted was a nightmare, I cut my finger on some glass when we were taking it down, and 5 days later I was having urgent surgery to repair the nerve :eek:
Since then I've gone a bit mad with the garden, I've bought apple, cherry, apricot and another apple dwarf trees, which are all doing well. One of the apple trees has blossomed and there are signs of fruit on it :j
I admit that I did cheat somewhat after the greenhouse went up, and I bought some beef toms, chillies and cukes already started off. I bought 12 toms thinking that I would lose some, but not one has been lost. Add those to the plum toms that we started from seed, and the compost toms that are sitting quite nicely in the tree pots, I've got 34 tomato plants on the go
I've also got eucalyptus, aloe and spring onions as well as sunflowers and general summer flowers!
I only really have quite a small garden in comparison, so I've gone on the waiting list for an allotment, as there is so much I want to try growing, and just no space to grow it in
