Quite pleased with how my bog garden's looking at the moment:
I thought I'd lost most of the sundews over winter, but they're popping up again all over the place. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Think you'd be ok sowing direct by now? Even in Yorkshire. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Very little happening here. My toms seem a way off some of your lot - however the warm weather is helping them to kick on a bit.
I'm really pleased with how my 12 cucumbers are coming along. They look really strong and healthy, and I'll probably plant them out in the next week or so.
I have several chillis planted from a fee pack of seeds I got. Again, getting lucky with the recent warm spell, a fair few have popped up. I'll thin these out into individual pots this weekend.
Some of the carrots are starting to go for it too, & I'm pleased that almost all the beetroot I planted out have taken, so fingers crossed there.
Planted some new lettuce, as have eaten the first batch planted.
Have given away 36 maverick tomato plants to family, & will be giving away another 30 to friends across the next week!
Been doing tidying jobs - pruning privet hedge etc. Want to mow the lawn, but the fullness of the composters has been preventing me. Hope to do that this weekend if I can. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Ok, here's an extensive update:
Spring onions and a white courgette:
Tub of carrots:
Prize winning marrows on a big pile of 'oss muck:
I'm not sure about this. I have a pot of chives (2nd pot from right, flowering). But I also have some rogue alliums growing between the slab and the raised bed timber. They're like chives but massive. Any ideas? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Mint and the beginnings of my tomato factory:
Great big rhubarb (Stockbridge Arrow) which I've allowed to flower. People say to cut the flower spike off, but I've left this as I want the seed and I'm pretty sure it won't hurt it:
My overwintered onions (Shakespeare IIRC) seem to be doing ok. I'm not sure I'd bother with them again though - they've taken ages, occupied valuable space and are £2.00 for 5kg from Morrisons. The twisted thing with yellow flowers is an old cabbage I haven't pulled out yet because the bees like the flowers.
The walking onions are going great guns, but again are taking up valuable space so they might have to go.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
One of the herb borders. Thyme, wild garlic, sage, rosemary and two lavenders. Plus the buddleja in the corner trying to fight off the rhubarb.
The pond's looking pretty good:
I have a resident frog:
The liquorice seems to have done nothing since I repotted it, but there are a few little shoots appearing away from the main plant, so it appears to have been spreading underground:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I'm optimistic of a good gooseberry crop this year. I sprayed the sawfly when they first appeared (before the fruit set), but now I'm picking them off by hand until I've harvested:
I have compost potatoes:
Raspberries are on their way:
Spuds are looking good. They're starting to flower so I'll have a furtle for some new potatoes soon:
Celery, scorzonera, a few squashes and leeks. The leeks have been in place at least a month, as I've had no luck keeping them in a clump and planting them out late. They're worth the space I think:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Beetroot. Various stages of development, but don't think it'll be too long before I get my first ones. There are some small runner beans next to the fence. I planted some out direct there too but they haven't come up.
Turnips, carrots and parsnips:
Cauliflowers waiting for a space:
The other herb border. Wild garlic, oregano, tarragon and caraway thyme:
I think the asparagus is doing ok. I might be able to have a taste next year:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
The comfrey behind the greenhouse is going well - time to make some tea I think:
Loads of stuff in the greenhouse needs potting on:
Including the enormous aubergines:
And finally, another shot of [STRIKE]my[/STRIKE] the frog who's chosen to live here, just because he's ace. :If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
