What do I do with raspberries again? I must have summer fruiting ones because I didn't get any fruit this autumn.
You do nothing but tie them up on onto canes to stop them breaking in the wind. If there are too many or any really thin canes cut them out but otherwise I give mine a top dressing of homemade compost late winter/early spring. You can cut off the tops by 6" or so if they're very tall, I find I get more fruit by doing that.Little_Vics wrote: »Are raspberries the same?0 -

I'm actually waiting for some pics of parsnips and a comment on their taste.
Tip of the day: don't spill a cup of tea on your router! dismantled it, cleaned it up and left it to dry all week and it seems to be working :T
Well after the cats and foxes using my freshly done parsnip patch back in the spring I wasn't sure what to expect! So I pulled 2 at the front. Hubby thinks they may have hit a brick as we have found other bricks in this bed before, or a tree root from the peach tree maybe but they didn't stay in their cones that for sure! but they have't forked/twisted in knots which I guess starts in the early growing period.
And they are very very tasty:j:D
Plenty more yet to be pulled.
I'm going to pick a different and bigger spot next year that I can net in the early months.0 -

Chuck it on the grass and mow it. Probably not the best idea if you've got a Flymo, as it'll break.lemonjelly wrote: »MrBE, why can't you do it next year? Written reasons please, & they have to be acceptable to the [STRIKE]inquisition[/STRIKE] committee! Otherwise, you'll have to be here!:)
Insufficient time.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Something has been eating the smaller leeks over the last few weeks. Is it too late for cutworms? it has been fairly mild here for the time of year.0

Nothing to do with gardening whatsoever but I'm so pleased with my tiger bread I'd though I'd share it with you too.

On a gardening note. I picked 2 autumn raspberries yesterday, that's a first for December.0 -
Do you remember that nasty fence panel that downstairs put up in the summer, well the wind is doing a good job of making sure it's not standing for much longer. One post gone, one more to go :j0

Hope everyone and their gardens survived the recent storm.
Home grown parsnips, carrots and tatties for dinner today, in addition to other things of course.
Off to [STRIKE]kick[/STRIKE] gently wake hubbyup as a tall present has appeared next to the tree overnight and it's got my name on itI suspect it's a fruit tree.
