We survived. The rest of the country may have had a 'storm', but up here in Yorkshire we just had 'weather'.

Having said that, I was hoping the wind would blow all my weeds away so I didn't have to do anything. Oh well.

    That made me laugh :rotfl:

Annie:- Yes survived, The only tree down was a neighbours that came over our fence and took the live electric cable down to the ground. The scarey thing is we have 5 of our brood mares in that field so my DH hot footed it, with chain saw to free the cable. All is well now.

Hope not too much damage suffered by all on this thread

On the assumption that MBE does read the thread occasionally.
Good luck for tomorrow. Think you said the 31st oct.

I found another bns whilst clearing the garden this morning, only a small one but it'll make a great batch of soup ;)

Good timing on logging in John ;)
  • I've not been on for a while but today I've done an audit of this year's greenfingered efforts;
Tomatoes - started late so fruited late but still getting lots of cherry tomatoes. A lot of them are still green but ripening in the kitchen as we speak.
Courgettes - bumper crop! I've tried lots of different recipes and courgettes with spaghetti voted the best in our house.
Broad beans - cropped well for a long time so will definitely do again.
French beans - ok crop but not as prolific as broad beans.
Rhubarb - got quite lot of stalks. Stewed and frozen - great with porridge in a morning.
Strawberries - cropping seemed to go on for weeks - always a winner in our house.
Cucumbers - again did well this year - lots from three plants.
Aubergines - plants grew well and I got flowers but no fruit - not really sure what went wrong here.
Apple cordons - planted four years ago and best crop ever this year. But no pears!
Blackcurrants - watched the bunches forming and then ... they disappeared! NB to self, net them next year!
Runner beans - 3 different attempts at planting but no beans appeared. Will try starting them off indoors with more heat next year.
Salad -grew on windowsill in kitchen. Really handy cut and come again.

    Next year:
Tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberrries, beans (broad, runner, french), blackcurrants, blueberries, courgette, aubergine and salad crops.
Off to finish clearing up ready for winter and get some sprouting seeds going.

Well done savingpennies. You really need a greenhouse to grow aubergines in the UK and even then you won't get many per plant.

MBE You back yet? how did you do?

I've had aubergines from the plant on my windowsill. There are still 2 little ones growing!

I'm pretty sure MBE has rejected us folks. Is it time for a coup? Who shall we nominate as our new leader?
  • They were in a greenhouse and seemed to be doing well but the flowers just didn't turn into fruits. It's the first time I've tried them and might have another go next year. Anyway, cleared the rest of the greenhouse today and left one tomato plant with lots of green toms still on. I found a couple of beetroots I'd overlooked in my tiny plot when tidying and a few broadbeans which will go in my salad for lunch tomorrow.

    No I didn't.

Went down very well with some Sirloin (half price in Tesco) cabbage and roast potatoes. Half of it was enough for the 2 of us. It was 4 1/4" across and 14 1/4" long. Couldn't go any deeper 'cos it goes into brash and clay.
