Zafiro - you have alpaca? I LOVE THEM! I love knitting with their wool too. You lucky thing, you...

Got three, an old girl, an original import from Chile, she's 17, plus her son and nephew. I do nothing with their wool - the birds have that for their nests. However their 'poo' is wonderful, they always go in the same place, make a mound so it's easy to collect and you can use it fresh as it doesn't burn the plants but best of all it doesn't smell. I got them to live with the chickens as they chase foxes (and dogs) but at the moment they're by themselves as it's heading winter and they need a field shelter at night.

Annie:- you can get a plastic mat - looks a little like egg boxes that the grass grows through so you don't actually walk on the grass. Also you can get lawn seed for 'dark places' or how about bark chippings, pea shingle or something along those lines.

No gardening today, will try to do some this weekend if the weather holds. Must order some glass as there are a few panes missing in the greenhouse.

Alpaca wool is gorgeous to knit with. Sigh. Maybe I should turn my garden into an alpaca-home.

Ideas please for the bit of 'lawn' in front of the shed. It's turned into a wet muddy area as the shed blocks out the bit of sun it did get. Didn't you put a grid of some sort in front of yours MBE? Did that work?
The area concerned is about 3' deep and 4' wide.

Yes, it did work, to a certain extent. I moved the grid this year and the grass has actually recovered better than when it was there. Best bet is to not walk on it if at all possible.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I've had a good old tidy up today. Plenty of weeding and pulling out the dead stuff. I've got a big pile of stuff I need to shred before I can compost it.

What do I do with raspberries again? I must have summer fruiting ones because I didn't get any fruit this autumn.

I've got a loganberry and I just chop it right back down. It comes back bigger and better each year, but I always forget to pick the fruit. Are raspberries the same?

You need to remove any canes that bore fruit this year, and any of this years weak canes can be removed also.

I haven't. Just not much time to spare at the moment - I've been away almost every weekend since August. :o

I don't think I'll be able to do this next year, so I hereby nominate you as my successor. Good luck! ;) :T

Wow! Didn't think this thread would stil be going.
Everything was harvested by me in september, except the sweet pea plants & a few hanging baskets.
Composters filled (I guess I should shred stuff, but how do you lot do that?). No room left in them now. Garden is asleep as far as I'm concerned. To be honest, if I can't potter of an evening when I get home from work, there's too much to do at the weekend.

MrBE, why can't you do it next year? Written reasons please, & they have to be acceptable to the [STRIKE]inquisition[/STRIKE] committee! Otherwise, you'll have to be here!:)
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
