I don't believe it does. As long as it was a regular fare, the voucher likely just acts like cash

  • In June I booked a flight, through the KLM website, for my husband and I to fly to Harare, Zimbabwe in mid November. The flight was due to start in Manchester at 5:55am and then leaving Amsterdam around 8:30am. The flight was direct from Amsterdam to Harare, arriving in Harare at 9:30pm on the same day. In August I received an e-mail advising that the flight from Amsterdam to Harare has been cancelled (I have since found out from a travel agent in Zimbabwe that the route has been cancelled by KLM for any flights after 26/10/14) and we had been rebooked to fly via Nairobi, leaving at 8:40pm, arriving in Harare the following day at 11:00am. This now means that we will be arriving at our destination 13 1/2 hours after our original booking. Please could you advise if I would be entitled to claim compensation. I did e-mail KLM Customer Care requesting airport lounge access but as yet have not received any response. Thanks in advance for any help with regards my dilemma.

I am sure this is covered in the FAQs. Basically EU compensation for delays and cancellations only applies if you are given less than 14 days notice of the change
You should have been given the option to reject to rerouting and have a refund instead

Have you been re-routed as Article 8

"(b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity;"?

  • Hi, I have read the FAQ and can't see my situation covered. I was on an Air France flight from Paris to Birmingham, the flight took off on time but 10 minutes in it had to go back to Paris due to technical problems. We were taken off the plane and put up in a hotel and were put on a flight the next morning. 12 hours after the original flight was due to depart. Can I still claim?

I think you are taking the FAQs a tad too literally.

Q: Did you arrive at your destination more than 3 hours later than scheduled?

If yes, have a look through this and the relevant links:

  • Thanks Caz3121 and richardw, I was offered the option to reject the re-routed flight and take a refund. I guess I do not qualify for compensation as I have also been give plenty notice of the cancellation. I appreciate your responses to my post.
