Hi, newbie here seeking help. I had a flight (October 2013) from Paris to Bangkok with AF delayed by more than 5 hours. Filled out their online claims form, no response for about a month so subsequently sent an email chasing the issue up and SURPRISE, got a reply next day. But not the outcome I was hoping for as they have basically denied my claim citing:

“Our records show that flight was delayed due to the presence of bugs on board the aircraft. As a result, a treatment of fumigation was necessary, which naturally resulted in unavoidable delay.

I would like advice, please, on whether this reason qualifies as “extraordinary circumstances”? If not how do I go about challenging this? Should I a) reply to them directly in the link provided in their decision email? If yes saying what? b) appeal directly to the relevant watchdog so to say. Or c) should I skip the BS and use a 3rd party company.

Many Thanks. If you prefer to pm your response that would be greatly appreciated aswell.
That's a new excuse/claimed EC!

How quick are KLM at responding these days?
• Hi there my flight was cancelled a few weeks back going to Amsterdam. There was a problem with the engine and we sat on the runway for near enough 2 hours. The flights was supposed to depart glasgow at 9.20 and after hours of waiting on the plane and departure lounge the flight was cancelled around 4 o'clock. I sent all details to klm and they have offered me £100 worth of klm vouchers valid for 12 month. This is no use to me as I won't be flying in the next 12 month. I thought I was entitled to the £210 compo, but they have said it was Outwith their control.

What should u say in my reply from anyone that has experience in claiming back

Thanks
Marc

If you go to the FAQs on the first page of this thread you will see details of the court process. Did you use a template letter to make your claim? if not I would send another letter with your 14 days notice of court action - if you are prepared to do that
• Hi!

Does anybody know what the current policy is regarding compensations in the case of a flight delay due to a sick crew member? I experienced a 3-hr delay from Helsinki to Amsterdam with KLM for this reason. I also missed my connecting flight to UK (on a single ticket, also with KLM) - ended up almost 11 hours late at my destination...

Cheers!

Hello, I would ask for your advice please regarding on ongoing claim with KLM.

We flew from Perth, Australia to Frankfurt, via Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam earlier this month. Or rather, should have flown....

Upon arrival at the KLM gate in Kuala Lumpur we were informed that our flight would be delayed for a minimum of 12 hours due to a technical problem with the hydraulics and that a part was having to be flown in.

We requested to be rerouted and finally, were told that we were booked with Thai Airways and would be flown to Bangkok and then onto Frankfurt.

Our original flight with KLM was due to depart Kuala Lumpur at 23:50 and instead, we departed for Bangkok at 07:30 the following morning.

KLM are telling me that as they rerouted us, we are not entitled to any compensation aside from any food/drink we may have purchased but as a gesture of goodwill, they would open a Flying Blue account for me with a credit of 1,000 miles!

The fact that we had to wait nearly 8 hours longer than planned doesn't seem to count. I am exchanging mails with them back and forth but they are questioning why I think I'm entitled to compensation - they cannot foresee any technical problems and it was "safer" for them to delay the flight and also, they rerouted us at "no extra charge".

The fact that our holiday was ruined before it even began is irrelevant.

Any tips on how I proceed with this would be more than welcome. I've declined the offer of the airmiles and said I will proceed with my request for compensation.

Have a read of the FAQs. There's lots of useful information there.
• Hi,

My wife, daughter and I booked to fly to New York via Paris on 13th December. The flight times were as follows:

LHR-CDG dep-1600 arr-1810
CDG-JFK dep-1910 arr-2120

However, the first part of the journey was delayed (I am unsure of the reason but we were on the plane in time to take off at the correct time). This meant that we missed the CDG-JFK flight and as there were no more flights until the following morning, we were given hotel/food vouchers for the night. We left the next morning and finally arrived at JFK at 1030 (12+ hours later than originally booked.

After reading through this forum, I believe we could be due the 600 Euro compensation and plan to apply accordingly.

However, I had also booked and pre-paid for a hotel in New York (via Hotwire) at a cost of $1522 for 5 nights ($304 per night).

Obviously we were unable to use the first night and the booking conditions do not allow for a refund. The room we were given in Paris can in no way be compared to the one we booked in New York so I believe we should be able to claim the cost of one night back.

Can anybody advise me how to do this? Should I claim it on the same form as the flight delay or is there a separate form to apply? I cannot find any information regarding how to claim for this so would be grateful if anyone can advise.

Thanks.
• Thanks for the prompt reply centipede! So there is definitely no point in trying to claim the hotel via AF? I guess its understandable that they can't be liable for consequential losses as that would put them in line for all sorts of claims.

I will look up the travel insurance documents and see what they say.

Thanks again.
• i filled out the online form on 3rd october, still awaiting a response (i recieved the standard email to say they will look into my refund request).
I sent a follow up email on 1st january. still nothing..
any ideas if it should take this long, or the next step?
