    the airport was Gatwick

Gordon Bennett, I'm a dozy so and so! I just read "airport in the Caribbean".

Think the chances of getting anything are still slim and comments re CAA still stand!

Hi, this is a long shot. June 2010 from Orlando to Manchester. We were waiting to board when one of the loading vehicles damaged the plane so that the luggage hold could not be shut. They had to fly both the part and mechanic in to fix it. Initially we were given food vouchers and eventually taken to a hotel for the night. However our luggage was not returned to us until we landed in Manchester, so many people had no change of clothes. We were delayed 24 hours. Will they simply class this as technical problems beyond their control?

    Many thanks.

Hi there. did you have any success with this. I am thinking of registering a claim for this flight. Ironically almost 3 years to the day we had a 24 hour delay this year. Claiming separately for that and have a court date set.

    thanks

I have not been on MSE for some time but wondered if yourself had any success with claiming for this flight delay?
    Many thanks.
  • Hi, I was travelling from Orlando to Manchester airport on 15th January 2006. We had travelled three hours when the pilot came on and told us we had good news and bad news!! He said that the aircraft had engine trouble and the good news was that we would be travelling back to Orlando. My partner was so frightened she was kissing our young son and saying "Goodbye" to him and telling him how much she loved him. We arrived back in Orlando and was put up in an hotel, and taken to the airport the next day to fly back to Manchester. I am trying to apply for compensation for this flight but I don't remember any more details about it. Is there anyone else on this flight who could help me with the details. I think it was Virgin, but I am not certain. I do see someone else had problems on this site and said there were two flights going to Manchester from Orlando, one from Heathrow (which we definitely were not on) and one was to Manchester.

Your flight was over 6 years ago so you are out of time
  • I read that Martin Lewis had said that the compensation could back to January 2005. Also Virgin Atlantic sent some Compensation Application Forms, which stated Flight cancellations under the requirements of EU regulation 261/2004 which established common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of cancellation or long delay of flights.

As Caz3121 said, you are out of time unless you believe that Virgin will waive their right to rely on the 6 year time limit for taking legal action.

Hi, as the title says. In Oct 2011 my 70yr old disabled father was left in the allocated waiting area to be wheeled to the plane for a few hours. Even after many requests to the desk he was told to sit & he would be collected. On the 4th request he was told that the flight had left. He was put up in a hotel until the next day & put on the next flight home.
    My problem is.
    • The family were not informed he was still in uk therefore he was left alone in a hotel room by himself.
    • We couldn't locate him when we heard he was not home and Gatwick would not give us any info when we called.
    • He couldn't call us because all of his info and phones were in his bags which they did not give him but they stated they had taken off the flight.
    • The transport that arrived at the airport in the Caribbean charged us an exorbitant amount because they waited for hours for him as there was no delay to plane so it was assumed he was on it.
    • He also had to pay another exorbitant amount the next day to get home as he had to take an airport taxi for the 2hr journey home from the airport.
I complained to virgins customer service. I had an auto response claiming I would get a response within 28 days. I received a response after 5 months. Basically claiming it was the fault of the transfer company and if he travels with virgin again please let them know and they will take good care of him.

I sent them a letter to another department to make a claim because he had an overnight delay without any fault of his own but to date they have not responded. This was in 2012.
Do I not have a claim or should I bring it to the CAA? Also cant find the flight number which was November 10th 2011
    Thanks for any response

Did he get as far as the departure gate? If so, Virgin might have some legal liability for Denied Boarding.
  • We were on the Virgin flight from Gatwick to Orlando VSO15 which was diverted to West Palm Beach and delayed 14 hours. We are still fighting for compensation for the delay. Was you on this flight.

I've looked back and nobody seems to have received the letter I just did (on the 19th) which basically just fobs the whole situation off as further appeals are still being considered.

Did everyone get this? What's the correct response?

    Thanks,
