Hi, can anyone help. We were delayed on Easyjet from Lanzarote to liverpool in 2010. Because Lanzarote airport closes at midnight, and our plane still hadn't arrived to take us home we were put up overnight in a hotel in Lanzarote. So we were delayed for around 16 hours. My problem is I don't have any records of it. We handed in the boarding passes and any other documentation we may have had have been binned by now. So is there a way of proving we were on that flight?

We are hoping to get some compo from easyjet. Hubby is currently In Tenerife, due to fly at 12.30 today, the plane broke down! So they're sending another for them, so departure time is now 21.15, BUT the planes not big enough, so hubby is now due to fly out at 18.30 TOMORROW!
They're getting food & drink and a night in a hotel, but the figure of £400 has been bandied about.
Seems tho that only the leder of the group, who booked the flights, can claim the compo.

I may be back for advice!

Would he be entitled to a refund or anything as its a homeward bound journey? He's in the Forces and is due back tomorrow morning and I expect, there'll be he'll to pay if he doesn't arrive on time!!!!

Group leader is not the only one who can claim compo. Just make sure hubby keeps his boarding card, any written or verbal info as to the reason for the delay, any additional costs incurred etc. Try harrassing staff at airport for precise reason of delay as evidence. Also make at note flight details/numbers and all timings. Then put your claim in.

Each passenger is entitled to claim compensation not just a "group leader".

Your husband will be claiming for denied boarding compensation NOT delay compensation since the airline has not accommodated him on the 21.15 flight as the aircraft is too small.

The compensation amount is the same but the airline doesn't really have a get out clause for denied boarding in the same way it might have for delay.

If you are air side and the plane is delayed taking off then a different plane but same Flight No. takes off 6 hours later.
Do you claim for delayed compensation or denied boarding compensation.

This isn't rocket science, people. If the plane you were meant to be on takes off without you, but with other passengers, you have been denied boarding. Doesn't matter if that plane is late or not.

I think you have misunderstood the question.
We were booked on a flight.
That flight was delayed, so we were unable to board it.
We think that plane was stuck elsewhere and did not arrive to be prepared for our flight.
Then 6 hours later another plane was used by the airline with the same flight No. as the missing plane which we id board.
So, were we delayed or were we denied boarding.
In fact we were both delayed and denied boarding, but what is technically correct.

No. It's really simple. If your flight departed (late or otherwise) and left you behind (assuming you presented yourself in time at the airport!), you have been denied boarding. If your flight was simply late, you have been delayed. And if your flight is cancelled and you are put on another flight altogether, then you have experienced a cancellation.

In your case, if your flight was delayed for six hours because another plane was flown out to replace the scheduled aircraft, you have been delayed - not denied boarding.
  • Hi all,

Just wanted to say that me and the misses have just been compensated for our 4hr 4 min delay we had last November to gran canaries, in the end with the actual flight times it took us 8hrs to get to destination, stuck on the Tarmac for said period of time until they decided to transfer us to another plane. 2 months ago my misses seen the Flight delay compensation email come through, so we decided to go through with it thinking we wouldn't get anything back. We used the template letter from this website and sent it off with out tickets. we then waited for about 2 weeks and I got an email saying that due to our flight delay of 4hrs 4mins we were entitled to €400 each, to our astonishment, couldn't believe for the cost of a postage stamp we got this much money back. It then took about a further 3 weeks toing and froing via emails to get the money in which I persevered with and done what they asked of me. Once I gave them my full card details they said the money would take 20 to 25 days to go in my bank, however it only took 6 days to go in and we got £690.64 paid in today. Also want to mention that they do everything via email once the letter has been received not by post, they send you a consent letter that has to be filled in by yourself and every passenger has to be on it and signed who is getting the compensation. So make sure this is done to the letter ok. Thankyou so much for this information on this site. We have out money towards our next holiday..hopefully get delayed again...lol
