  • This is nonsense. It is a technical issue. Pursue your claim
  • .......

It was initially suspected that this may have been due to an unfamiliar odour noticed on the flight deck, Any unusual occurence on an aircraft necessitates a mandatory investigation by engineers. On inspection however, no fault could be found and the aircraft was declared serviceable.

So the aircraft was suspected of having a technical problem and as it panned out there was nothing wrong with it apart from probably a blocked toilet, so that’s now an EC ? J2 don’t get any better do they as stated utter nonsense and worth a DIY claim IMHO.
    ........

Are people on here affiliated with that Bott website? they obviously take a % so just wanted to check if thats worthwhile if its just following up with some further letters.

I know that nobody on this thread is affiliated directly with Botts, I have used their services as have some other members that have recently posted in this thread.

I have also had a claim which I won by the DIY route and I think I can say with some surety that we would always recommend the DIY route for uncomplicated and easy win cases, but where there is doubt (not in your case at this stage) then a good NWNF Solicitor can be used, something is always better than nothing...

I had two claims during the ‘beast from the east’ Botts won two out of my three delays, I’d previously won one on my own some years back which started me posting and helping on here. None of us earn any commission, cashback, favours or payment of any kind for helping on here that I can assure you of.

Good luck with your claim, an LBA is your next step and then MCOL is your friend, it’s all in Vaubans guide.

Alas, Jet2 in their stubborness (some might call it arrogance) have refused to sign up to an ADR. It does mean you can take your complaint against Jet2 the CAA, but don't hold your breath on that front.

    Any opinions now?!

I don't see a claim here. Crew fell ill and a replacement aircraft/crew was used. That's not a compensatable event. It costs nothing to send off a LBA but I strongly suspect you'd be wasting your time and money following through in court. Personally I'd hand it over to Bott.

I think that’s a personably reasonable point of view, IF the delay was indeed caused by genuine crew illness, as in many of these cases nobody knows the true cause of the delay apart from the airline and it has been proven that often the true cause of the delay is only truly reveald in the airlines formal defence to legal action.

I’d say to the OP - I still believe you have a strong case, and my advice is soak up what you can from our differing opinions and do what you feel is right.

Opinions are always divided and life would be boring if we all agreed all of the time, that’s why Court cases have to go as high as the Supreme Court for a definite decision.

Good luck whatever you decide to do and please do keep us informed of your progress.

  • Thankyou so so much for all of your advice and help. I’m going to pursue to the next stage then hand over to Bott. Like some one said a stinky loo or something can’t be reason enough to keep us in the airport for an additional four hours on top of the 3 already (and with a baba too!)
    Thanks again!

"If the delay was indeed caused by genuine crew illness...."

What are the chances of 2/3 people simultaneously falling ill?

    Almost none.

So, either they are bluffing, because nothing was discovered, or they are being truthful and their defence will provide evidence, but nothing was discovered, so that kind of seals both exits for them.

It's worth £85, or whatever MCOL costs these days to find out. I bet they are bluffing.

Jet2 26-2-19 Lanzarote to Manchester flight no LS892, according to many on board landed at 23.50 making it 3hrs 5 mins late. Captain stated landed 23.44 making it 2.59 delay. On Jet2 website stated landed at 23.50 also on the arrival board in Manchester stated arrived at 23.50. Can anyone advise how to check the correct time of landing.
  • It’s not the time of landing that counts, it’s the time the doors are opened for disembarkment, it sounds like you have a claim.
