    Got my response from Jet2 today - I must have been flying on the unluckiest plane ever. Jet2 tell me that the flight (occurring in August 2012) experienced faults with 3 components in flight or just before flight - spoiler actuator (fitted in December 2011 and expected to last 5-15 years), pitot probe (fitted in 2007 and expected to last at least 10 years) and the pressure regulating shut off valve (this failed in under 3 years when expected to last 5-10 years).

    Who would have believed one flight could have experienced so many faults with parts that were supposed to last much longer?

    Having read this letter, I don't feel I have much option than to put it down to bad luck and discontinue with any claim ..... unless anyone knows better?

    I would point out to all that Jet2 runs (and clearly poorly maintains) one of THE oldest fleets in Europe. The avergae age of the fleet is some 22 years, compared to 4 years for Ryanair (spits).
    I leave you to draw your own conclusions how this would affect the normal day to day running of an ancient fleet of aircraft :o

  • Received a reply today, having written a further letter asking for a response. My original letter was dated 28th January. Sarah Evans (Customer Care) failed to acknowledge my last letter or its contents. Firstly, the fault occurred whils the plane was on the runway (smoke in the cockpit). We then took off a flew for approx half an hour before turning back. The Cabin steward told me it was a reoccurrence of the original problem that caused the delay.
    Sarah Evans claims it was (yet again) an unexpected technical fault, more specifically a hydraulic fault. No details of that or the original fault. As far as I am concerned I am using a no win no fee solicitor. Why should I waste my time with these delay tacticsw.

    After deliberating about ours, I have decided to do a no win fee with solicitors. It's a local firm here in the NorthWest. Turns out, a solicitor at the firm is also claiming against Jet 2.

    I think, for anyone who is worried about doing it all on their own. do a no win no fee. What is to lose. 70% is better than nothing

  • My 70 year old parents were recently on a flight that got called back to the airport. My father is not a great flyer and it took it out of him. A gentleman who was sat next to him was great in looking after him, and has told him he should make a claim.

    Now I know absolutely nothing about claiming, and I am presuming the gentleman was referring to this area. Therefore, I am hoping someone can take a quick look at the information below and tell me if it is worth reading up in order to make a claim.

    LS217 from Leeds to Arrecife on Thursday 18th April 2013.
    08:55 = Schedule departure time.
    13:25 = Schedule landing time.
    09:46 = Departed - weather was windy and most flights delayed.
    Plane was called back to LBA due to debris on runway.
    Plane circled around leeds for ages before landing.
    Crew would be out of hours, so crew changed.
    Plane re-departed.
    Landed = 17:53

    "I can confirm that this was the result of an unexpected technical fault, more specifically a flap overspeed. This could not have been forseen or prevented even though all resonable measures were taken"

    I've had a response back from JET2.
    "I can confirm that this was the result of an unexpected technical fault, more specifically a flap overspeed. This could not have been forseen or prevented even though all resonable measures were taken"
    Seldom, your details aren't really clear. Did aircraft actually take off from LBA or just taxi then recall back to terminal? I assume latter as debris on runway would not affect after takeoff.
    It was damn windy last thursday at LBA, so any delay would be EC due to weather= no claim. That is out of airline's control.

    Firstly, thank you very much for your reply.
    Flight did take off. From looking / zooming in on the link I provide it flew to southern Ireland, before heading back and then circling and then landing.
    I hope this makes sense.

    It could mean that the debris could have come from that aircraft which would suggest it would need checking in case they were a safety issue.
    Were they from an previous aircraft, they could have danaged this flight (think Concorde crash in France, and a recent case at Madrid where debri from a previous flight damaged the tyres on one after it)

    Again the circling for some time would have been to burn off fuel to prevent an over weight landing or waiting for the weather to moderate
