Flight delay and cancellation compensation, Jet2.com ONLY

My flight was due to depart at 21.30 - SKG to MAN. The plane, MAN to SKG, was due to land at 20.30 giving one hour turn around. It attempted to land just before 23.00. No other flights diverted at all that evening so the weather doesn’t appear extraordinary. They departed MAN just before 17.00 (BST), so 19.00 Greek time. Other flights were landing / departing SKG fine at that time although don’t know what runways they were using. Runway 34 doesn’t have the same restrictions on it in daylight.
Yes, I was surprised they didn’t threaten me with court costs. That seems odd as I know they have done that to others on this thread.0 -
Maybe that will come next.If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

I’ve done a bit of research and now have the historical weather data for SKG.
In answer to your question, JPears, the weather was pretty consistent from noon at SKG. When the plane took off (nearly three hours late) from MAN to travel to SKG, there was some gusting at SKG That had all subsided by the time it arrived at SKG, but, the wind was still coming from the north (as it had been all day) forcing aircraft to land on runway 34, into the wind. But the plane that was due to operate my flight wasn’t permitted to land on 34 (because it was night). Sunset was at 9.01pm. It had been due to arrive at 8.30pm (in daylight) but, due to the change of aircraft, attempted to land for the first time at about 10.50pm.0 -
It sounds similar to mine - different circumstances caused the delay. The point is, if every other plane can land, then it can't be extraordinary. Like you say - looks like they didn't have the equipment needed for 34 - again not extraordinary as they would have known this and should have taken action to prevent it. The thing is once you're delayed over 3 hours - you become low priority to rectify - better for them that you have a longer delay and all other flights are on time than delay another flight. it should have another time restriction after 9 hours and your compensation goes up. I'll write to the European Commission and suggest it.0

I think you are right there. No incentive to reduce delay once three hours breached. Stepped compensation would make more sense.0

Interestingly, the weather was much worse the following day, when they did manage to land it. Wind speed was 20km/h faster on average and gusting up to 57km/h. From N, NNW too. But, they could land on RWY34 as it was daylight....
Don’t you just hate it when companies persistently mis-lead?0 -

Interestingly, their correspondence to date has been from legal executives. Are they bound by the same professional regulations as solicitors are?0

Hi PomBear,
Legal Executives usually specialise in a specific field of law and can be chartered. They carry out similar work to a solicitor, but solicitors have a broader knowledge of all aspects of law.
You seem to have a good grasp on the situation and I have faith in you and your case. I cannot see this getting as far as court.
Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0
