Flight delay and cancellation compensation, Ryanair ONLY

Hi
I am hoping someone out there can help me or may have been on the same flight.
The flight in question was due to fly from Birmingham to Tenerife 19th Dec 2010 FR1121.
I would like to know if anyone has successfully claimed from Ryanair.
There was snow on the ground but other airlines were still flying. We sat on a runway for hours, no refreshments were offered, no phone calls, nothing.
The flight was due to depart at 12.35pm but was eventually cancelled i think about 1900 hours. The crew had run out of hours.
To jog anyones memeory. This was in the paper as passengers sat on the plane and refused to get off.
I was put on a plane from Liverpool to Tenerife flying the next day, i now believe they should have paid for the hotel plus transport plus refreshments. Is this the case and can i claim for delay compensation as well?
Please if anyone can help as i do not really know how to proceed?
Many thanks0 -

Looking at Flightstats for that date and departures from Birmingham, there were 18 cancelled flights that day, 18 flights delayed over 3 hours and a multitude of unknowns with no flights showing as departing on time. I expect that weather played the main factor for your situation.
You should be able to claim reimbursement of the hotel and meals if this was not provided but I would not expect EU compensation to apply as this looks like it was outwith the airlines control0 -
Would still be the case regarding weather even though Ryanair still had flights operating and the fact that planes were taking off around us?
How would i need to go about claiming?0 -

Ryanair had 8 flights scheduled on that date
4 were cancelled
1 was delayed just over an hour
2 were over 3 hours delayed
1 was over 7 hours delayed
Have you looked at Flightstats?
I cannot see how you can think the issue was not related to the weather0 -
Sorry i think you misunderstood what i was saying, yes the weather was not good 50% of Ryanair Flights still took off though. As i said i di not know how this would be looked at. If you saying that the Airline would be able to get out of this due to Weather then i accept your knowledge.
How would i go about claiming for reimbursement for Hotel, Travel and refreshments?
Thanks again for your help.0 -

When the weather is bad, the airlines are often at the mercy of air traffic control. Airlines do not make money when there flights are not in the air, so do not choose to cancel flights willingly. I assume you were all boarded and the pilot would have been sitting patiently for permission to depart which did not come before they went out of hours
If you send your receipts in to Ryanair with a letter mentioning "duty of care" (which applies whether the delay is down to the airline or not) they should reimburse0 -
Afternoon All,
Searching the tinterweb for info to have a scrap with Ryan Air and happened upon your thread. Fantastic stuff. I am going to send off the template letter for cancelled flights once I have collated my receipts.
The circumstances are that my flight from Barcelona to Liverpool on the afternoon of the 25th instant was cancelled. We queued in the airport for the service desk for over 5 hours only to be offered a refund of the flight cost or a flight to Parma on Sunday 29th. They wouldn't offer a hotel but said find your own two star and submit a claim afterwards. I asked them to stamp my boarding card to say I was there and left it at that. I didn't accept the refund or alternative flight. I arranged another night in Barcelona and a flight into Heathrow the following night, hired a car and drove back to Liverpool in the early hours of the morning.
If anybody has any advice that would be great and I'll keep you posted of how events transpire.
Cheers
