Flight delay and cancellation compensation, Ryanair ONLY
Comments
-
Hi all,
So after asking Ryanair for details on the claimed strike, and saying that if they won't give satisfying details I would file a complaint I got this answer:
I refer to your latest correspondence.
As we have stated in our previous letter, the cancellation was due to the strike action by Air Traffic Controllers.
Whilst we sympathise with your view, we regret that our position as set out in the letter dated 25/07/2018 remains unaltered. We are sorry that we cannot be of further assistance with regards to this matter.
Nevertheless, if you incurred any additional reasonable receipted expenses during the delay (such as accommodation, meals, refreshment, transportation), please submit copies of your receipted expenses and your bank details (i.e. Account Holder/Bank/Account Number/IBAN/Swift) by clicking on the below link and uploading your documents for our review.
Would you recommend using a NWNF company, if so which one is recommended?
If I choose to pursue this by myself, it seems the official next step is to go to the Greek regulator, or the ECC, but Vauban's guide seems to skip this step and go straight to sending an NBA before going to court. Are those steps really that useless?
Reminder: My flight FR4940 on July 14 from Athens to Memmingen was cancelled. I was rerouted through another flight and arrived home on the evening of the 15 of July. Ryanair refuse to pay compensation because they claim there was an ATC strike, I found no evident of such strike.0 -
Hi steakmaster,
Put your flight details into a couple of online flight delay calculators such as Bott & Co, who are also a recommended NWNF solicitor.
We need to establish some further evidence/details about what may have happened on the day and whether it is an EC or not. The calculators will help with this.
Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -

Thanks, I tried EUclaims and Bott & Co. EUclaim said I'm eligible for compensation, but it was and immediate reply. Bott & Co. said they'll answer back in 2-3 days.0 -

There has been criticism that sometimes Botts can be a little optimistic, not heard the same about EU Claim though, you are right to wait for Botts, they do have an excellent reputation, EU Claim rejected three of my recent claims, Botts took all three on and won two out of the three, I must get around to updating the Botts thread. After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!
Hi, we’ve had to remove part of your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
We tried to book a package holiday with Ryan Air just over a week ago following a tweet reply from them confirming they would refund both hotel and flight if they cancelled our flight.
We booked a flight and hotel entered card details and paid for both. We got the standard Your transaction has been successful banner at the top of the page. Great all done we thought.
Then there was a message 'There was a problem with your hotel booking don't worry you have not been charged for this'll!!!! On checking our email they had took payment for the flight leaving us with no accommodation. Every attempt to contact them by email Twitter Phone Live Chat has failed. Can a firm do this?
We do not want to book a hotel by other means as we know we will loose our money if our flight is cancelled.
Does anyone know if there are any insurance companies that will insure your hotel bookings ?
Also does anyone know if I would be entitled to a refund on my flight only as this not what I wanted
And if anyone knows a magical way to get Ryan Air to answer correspondence that would be helpful to many Ryan customers at the moment Thanks0 -
This is what I got from Bott & co:
Your Claim Decision
Sorry, it looks like you can't claim
When booking your flight with Ryanair you agreed to their General Conditions of Carriage which contain numerous terms, one of which stipulates that any claim must be brought within the Irish Courts.
In May 2017 a judge at Liverpool County Court ruled that this is a valid term and that the English Courts cannot deal with any Ryanair claim.
Unfortunately, as we are Solicitors regulated in England and Wales only we do not have the necessary jurisdiction to pursue your claim in Ireland.
We are appealing the decision from Liverpool County Court, however in the meantime we are unable to assist with your claim.
ESCP it is then.0 -
Simple now then. I won't be flying Ryanair.
Does this mean ESCP can no longer used against Ryanair?
What is the point of having the ESCP if a company just negate it writing in their terms and conditions? Surely this is not legal? If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Not sure how to proceed. Ryanair have rejected my claim due to air traffic restrictions, however this wasnt the main reason why my flight was delayed.
The flight was orignally delayed as a knock-on from planes being grounded elsewhere due to bad weather (announcement was made to this effect when we got on the plane). We finally boarded just under 3hrs late. Taxi'd out to the runway, then someone on the plane stood up and would not sit down for at least 15 minutes, as their child was distressed and needed a cuddle. Then an annoucment was made that due to bad weather at another airport (not the one we were at, or going to), restrictions were being put on number of planes in air. We sat on runway for around another 20-30 mins before taking off. On landing, ground crew were not available, so we had to stay on plane for another half hour whilst they waited for steps to be provided.
Ryanair are only stating the flight restriction as their reason for delay. This was 20 minutes. Our original flight should have landed at 9pm, we finally got off the plane at just before 1am.
Ryanair sent me an email that i can use to claim on my travel insurance. They have stated the flight arrived with a 3hrs 25mins delay. But that doesnt include the time waiting for the steps to be provided. Also what are they suggesting i should be claiming for, off my own insurance?
