  • Hi, can anyone offer me any advice please regarding Ryanair cancellations?

Flew to Malaga on 17/07 for 9 nights. Got a text on 18/07 telling us flight home had been cancelled. Tried instantly to get in touch and took me to the Friday 20/07 to get through to the most unhelpful assistant who wanted us to drive to Madrid (over 5 hours drive with a 2 year old). Then told me just to take a refund but as all other flights out of Malaga this week were now fully booked that wasn't an option.

Anyway eventually got them to fly us to Liverpool which I was relived just to be getting back to the UK. Problem was car was in Newcastle. Original flight to Newcastle was due to leave at 0655 and land at 0905. Flight to Liverpool was 1245 and landed at 1445. We had to hire a car to drive back to Newcastle to collect our car which cost us a small fortune.

Does anyone know what we are entitled to and where do I start trying to claim?

    Thanks

    Welcome.

    1. Download Vaubans superb guide.
    2. Give us your flight details number etc.
    3. Did you get a reason for the cancelled flight.
You can claim the additional costs of the car hire.
You may also be due compensation depending on the reason for cancellation.

Is that the Simon Calder article ?

I never actually read it, I just read the daily star lol

If anyone has a link please post, because it seems quite a major misunderstanding of passenger rights from somebody that is well respected.

He must have got out of the wrong side of his bed that morning.

    thanks.
I sent them a letter asking for information regarding the claimed strike.
I guess if get nothing back, the next step is to appeal to the Greek regulator (I was flying from Athens), or to go to the ECC, as I bought the ticket online? Can I complain through AvaitionADR, given my flight didn't go through the U.K.?
    Cheers
  • Thank you JPears,

It was cancelled due to the cabin crew strike.

So you are all probably due compensation as well as the costs of your car hire to get you back to Newcastle.
As said, Vauban's guide will give you the information you need.
But help will be willing given here.
You should probably read Dr Watson's superb notes on taking RA through the euro small claims process.

  • Thabks. I'm guessing from the bits I have read that they won't pay out easily and will dispute the need to pay.

I'll fill in their online form in the first instance and then take it from there.

Hello all. I've had a nightmare with Ryanair last night...

My Ryanair FR147 flight STN - SXF 19:25 was initially delayed by 2 hrs 55 mins to 22:20. They sent a 5EURO coupon via text. At 21:20 they told us to go to the gate.

Then we were told by a woman at the gate that we were waiting for a plane to arrive at 22:30 for a 22:45 departure.

At 22:45 we were told that our flight was scheduled for a 23:50 take off.

At 23:10 we were told we were boarding. Literally minutes after they had scanned everyone's boarding passes, and with half of the passengers already on the plane, they told us the flight had been cancelled. I have a picture of the plane with passengers on board.

We were then all ushered through a single backdoor, back into the luggage claim area. This was followed by a single Ryanair customer service desk remaining open for hundreds (if not, over a thousand) of stranded passengers from various flights. I also have pictures of this.

The tanoy kept telling customers to go home and rebook their flights online. After waiting in the queue for perhaps 1-2 hours, I booked an Uber back to London.

I've tried to call their flight change line (0330 100 7838) but after less than a minute of queuing it states !!!8220;Due to exceptionally high call volumes, we are unable to answer your call at the moment!!!8221; and hangs up. I am currently in an hour's queue for their webchat as an alternative.

Ideally I would like them to book me onto another flight this weekend. I tried to do this with their app but they had no availability. However I saw in the EU regulation that it doesn't have to be the same airline, so I am holding out for this.

    Some questions:
    • How do I find out the cause of the flight problems? It mentioned bad weather on the tanoy, however it was barely raining at the airport and news coverage only seemed to imply minor delays at Gatwick. I don't believe this to be a real excuse given how it played out - who is the authority on this who will make this judgement call?
    • What compensation can I expect? Will they cover my taxi home?
    • Can I get a reroute via another airline? How much can they push back on this? I'd much rather this than a refund.
    • I have EHICPlus Expand Travel Insurance and sent them a claim whilst I was in my taxi last night. Whilst I expect this to be measly, I hope I can get something from this? Will it effect me claiming for other holidays though?
    • Do I make a compensation claim straight away, or wait to get through to their customer services? If the former, do I need to go through Ryanair's own one, or can I use the resolver tool etc? I read somewhere that going through a third party first can negate the claim when it comes to Ryanair?
    • I had a return flight booked too (though I think I booked it seperately, so not in one go with my other) - am I eligible for a refund/reroute of this, given it's their fault I'm unable to use it? Less of a big deal as it was quite cheap, but every little helps right now!
Any other advice much appreciated for a very tired, miserable but determined guy... :money:
