On 14 of July my Ryanair flight from Athens to Memmingen got cancelled. I've applied for a compensation through their online forms and got this reply:
I refer to the online correspondence dated 16/07/2018
We sincerely regret the cancellation of your flight FR4940 from Athens to Memmingen on the 14/07/2018 which was due to the ATC strike, therefore outside of our control.
However, as this cancellation was for safety reasons and therefore outside Ryanair’s control we regret to advise that no monetary compensation is due under EU Regulation 261/2004.
We note you were re-accommodated on an alternative flight FR6301, on 15/07/2018.
We sincerely regret the inconvenience you encountered.
I'm aware that an ATC strike might mean I'm not eligible for a compensation, but I couldn't find any information on such a strike on said date.
Where can I see if there was actually a strike taking place before I'm taking my claim further?
Any other tips would be most welcomed.0 -
How did you get to Memmingen? or did you abandon your journey? If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Touche. Too much vin rouge this evening
To be honest, I tend to skim read most airline responses as they are usual verbose crocks of sh....If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

I can find no reference to any ATC strike on that date or day before. Especially in Italy, Switzerland, Lichenstein or Germany.
I think further questions to RA are in order. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

And I see RA are still bleating about crew strikes being an EC....If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

There was a pretty unhelpful article in the Times today saying that Ryanair had "decided" that the strikes were an EC and therefore passengers would get no compensation. If you read it as a disappointed passenger you would just give up. Of course some lucky people might just drop in here. Aux armes, citoyens!0
