And also remember that when an airline, company public body etc says:
"We cannot deal with your claim/ comment on individual cases/enter into correspondence etc", what they really mean is "will not".

Update on Maguire -v- Ryanair (and, hopefully, encouragement for those challenging/thinking of challenging Ryanair on their own)

After arguing successfully for the stay of my ESCP case to be lifted the case finally went before a Deputy District Judge on 22 May for a "papers" only hearing at Sheffield County Court. I received the outcome today. The Judge:

    1. Rejected Ryanair's view that the delay was caused by "exceptional circumstances" (Huzar)
    2. Rejected Ryanair's claim that they weren't liable for my wife's claim because I wasn't qualified to claim for her + gave permission for my wife to "joined as a Claimant" on the basis of the papers already submitted.
    3. Awarded €800 as compensation
    4. Awarded our court fees and
    5. Rejected Ryanair's claim that no interest should be paid as the the court didn't have that power and/or 8% interest was disproportionate and awarded 213 days interest (from the delayed flight) at 8%
(all of the above at the rate of €1.40 to £)

Ryanair could, of course, appeal although on what grounds it's very hard to see. Beyond that - the Judge ruled that we should be paid by 5 June (tomorrow!) although I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Lastly - I need to put on record my thanks to those on the Forum who have given of their time, especially Dr Watson who has been supportive to the end. We took this case because we were inundated with emails/texts from Ryanair while we waited at Malaga Airport for over 7 hours telling us we wouldn't get any compensation whatever (and this from a company that made €795m post tax profit last year).

    PatMaguire,
It's been my pleasure believe me. Well done to your good self for having the tenacity and perseverance to continue, you have ridden the ups and downs of this one well ....and kept going.
That's exactly how you deal with this airline.
As promised a small  is being enjoyed in the Doctor's surgery.;)
Successfully sued Ryanair in 2013/14...and have been 'helping' litigants since then.

    Current known score:-
Dr Watson 35 - 0 Ryanair / Ince and Co

Go to post 622 on the Ryanair thread to read how to sue them safely.

Can anybody tell me if they were on the flight that sat on the runway for 5-6hours and then was cancelled. We were not provided with Drinks/ Food or accomm. We traveled to Liverpool to get the flight teh next day as that is all Ryanair could offer.
Can anybody tell me if i am just entitled to meals/ accomm / cost to get to Liverpool or can i claim for flight being canceled. If anyone who was on the flight help or anyone else advise. I have tried to look on flight checker that shows stats and it shows flight being cancelled but what it does not show is that we were delayed for i think it was 5 hours before they cancelled.
Not sure if any of this makes sense?
If anyone can help as never received a penny form Ryanair.
    Thank you

Yes well done Pat, an excellent result!

I think the EC261 levy should be reclassified as a lawyers fee.

    Congratulations Pat!
  • Hi

I am new to this forum, just found it. I flew with Ryanair last Tuesday on a return from Tours, France to Stansted. The flight was supposed to leave at 17.35. After boarding and safety demonstration, there was an attempt to start the flight, however some problem occurred and we had to disembark the plane. We were then told we had to wait for a technician to be flown into Tours airport, and this would be 19.45. I(n fact the flight with the technician did not arrive until an hour later. We finally took off at 21.30, four hours late. When we arrived at Stansted< Ryanair's desk was shut and there was none to help with any problems caused due to the delay. I was travelling with my 11 year old daughter, we had missed our train to Leeds and there were no more trains that night. I ended up having to get a train into London and then a night bus and a taxi in order to get to a friend's flat to have somewhere to sleep. I had to pay for further transport to get home the next day. If anyone from Ryanair had been available to help I wouldn't be trying to get compensation because all i really wanted was the money for the expenses caused by the delay, which is over £100. But after getting nowhere talking to their customer services on the phone for two days I filled in the compensation form on their website and also a complaints form. This morning they emailed saying compensation is not due to me because unexpected mechanical failure is covered by extraordinary events but I know this is not the case from what I have read on this forum. They also said they had emailed me about the flight delay to let me know I could use the phone to make arrangements on landing. This isn't true, I never received an email from Ryanair on 2/6 and no one offered us use of a phone although refreshments were made available. I just wondered what my next step should be now, should I email them back to say that I am aware that mechanical failure is not covered by extraordinary events? In any event it was the time taken for the technician to arrive, rather than the fault itself which caused most of the delay! Or should I write to them using one of the draft letters available. Any advice is greatly appreciated, I'm a single parent on a low income and the expense incurred by this has made getting through the rest of the month really difficult! I've never taken on anything like this before and feel a bit daunted by it but I'm sob upset by how we have been treated, Thanks in advance x
