Flight delay and cancellation compensation, Flybe ONLY

  • Hi
    Wonder if anyone can help?
In January we booked a holiday near Biarritz for 21- 31st August. We choose these dates because there were flights from Southampton with flybe on these dates. We have paid for the holiday and the flights.
Yesterday we received an email from flybe saying that the outward flight on the 21st July is no longer available. We were offered alternative flights on the 19th July. We couldn't accept these because the kids are still at school and my wife and I have not booked that time off work.

We have managed to extend our holiday booking to the 2nd August at extra cost to ourselves and are now flying with flybe on 24th July and returning on the 2nd August.

No explanation has been given for the cancelled flight on the 21st July and no recompense or compensation for our extra time and costs involved in calling flybe or the holiday company.

What rights do we have regarding future flights being cancelled and extra costs incurred to work around flybe and the new dates offered?

I can see the flights change to Tues/Thurs/Sun in August but for July are only Tues/Sun. I expect they originally thought they would be running Thursdays in July too but plans must have changed
When this happens your option is to accept the alternatives offered or take a refund and book elsewhere - which would have involved either changes or different airports
Did you look at other alternatives before accepting the replacement flights?
What were the extra costs incurred? you were originally booked for 10 nights and are now going to have 9 nights (3 nights less at the start and 2 nights more at the end)...you could check if your travel insurance will cover the additional costs
  • We did look for other flights but the were prohibitively expensive.
If we accepted their offer of flying on the 24th and returning on the 31st we only have 8 days of the 11 day holiday we paid for.
So we choose to extend ( at additional cost) the accommodation to the 2nd August. Either way we are out of pocket by either the fact that we have paid for 11 days but now only have 8 or by booking another couple of days.

We entered into a contract with flybe. If it was the other way around...... and we wanted to change our flight dates at this stage we would be expected to compensate / pay a fee to flybe. It seems the contract is unfairly weighted. The customer service has been appalling. No explanation....apparently the manager of the customer service agent we spoke to was to busy to speak to us.....then given a different number to call.....
.we call that number only to be told that we shouldn't have been given this number and then a promise that someone will call us back......guess what? We are still waiting for that call.

Alas one of the dangers of flying Flymaybe, they change timetables on a whim. My sister lives on Guernsey and has vowed never to go with Flybe again as they have altered/delayed/cancelled almost every flight she has had with them for the past 6 years.
I think a strongly worded letter of complaint. Perhaps invoice them an "adminstration fee", similar to that they would charge you, for the change of flight?
Agreed, it is a very one sided contract. Keep an eyeout on your booking online from 2 weeks before flight date, just in case they cancel or amend again, within the the 1 4 days of reg 261/2004
BA did it to me a few years ago, so I just cancelled the whole booking. They blamed me for booking it so far in advance!

I have flights booked with Flybe for 5 people to travel to Mallorca in July. The original flight departure time from Exeter was 20:00 arriving 23:15 which would get us to our hotel about 1am, later than we'd like, but acceptable. We've now been informed by Flybe that they have had to change their schedule and the flight will now depart at 21:55 which arrives at 01:10 which means we'll get to our hotel at 3am. We can either accept or decline these changes but there's no refund if we cancel the flight and our hotel is booked so there's no realistic flight alternative. It seems to me we just have to accept this. If the delay had been for a day flight I would just have accepted but I think a 3am hotel arrival is inconvenient and Flybe should do something to compensate passengers for this. Does anyone else have experience of this and any advice on how to handle this please.

no compensation due if more than 2 weeks notice is given of the change. Refund is often offered if flight change is more than 2 hours

    from their conditions of carriage
9.1.1 The flight times shown in timetables may change between the date of publication and the date you actually travel. We do not guarantee them to you and they do not form part of your contract with us.

Schedules do change, It is likely your travel insurance will not cover any compensation either

I'm waiting in Belfast city airport for a flight to Leeds Bradford. Flight was meant to leave at 9.40am but is delayed til 10.50am:mad:. I wouldn't feel so bad and understand there can be issue but I was booked for the same flight this day and time last week and was also delayed and when we got in the plane just after take off the wheel stayed jammed and had to make an emergency landing in Belfast international. To make things worse after we got landed we had to wait again on the runway as the pilot and staff didn't know where safety pins had to go so that plane could be towed by this time it was after 1pm and they then wanted us to get on a bus and go back to city for another flight. This then had left everything I arranged running late so I could not continue about my business in Leeds. Any how I wonder if it will be the same again today and I wonder are these planes safe enuf to be in the air. How do I go about compensation?? Btw flybe pay for my flight today but as for my lifts and arrangements I am out the costs

3 hours delay upon arrival required before airline have to pay compensation.
  • Hi, wonder if anyone could offer any advise on this? 7 of us were due to fly to Amsterdam from Doncaster airport in June and the flight got cancelled which meant we had to get a taxi to catch another flight from Manchester. We got reimbursed the taxi money etc but Flybe refused to pay out compensation despite the 3+ hour delay arriving.
They stated the flight was cancelled due to bad weather yet we were allowed to fly from Manchester and some other friends flew with a minor delay at the same time from Birmingham so it just seemed they picked which flight to cancel as with the exception of this one and maybe one other every other flight landed in Amsterdam with minor delay. Flybe have refused do you think there are grounds to escalate at all or am I fighting a loosing battle? Just seems bizarre they can use this weather excuse when it suits them but the other flights were ok.
