Balletgirls, how do you know that the incident was as described above - did BA explain that in their letter, or do you know from some other source? If the pilot really did throw the phone out of the cockpit window, perhaps they are suggesting that he had reasonable grounds to suspect it was an explosive device and had no option but to throw it out to protect the aircraft and passengers? That seems a little far-fetched though. Can you copy their whole letter here?

It was in the Sunday Papers - BA never gave an explanation but we saw the incident and the captain was 'keeping us informed'.

    Hi

I am about to apply for compensation for the same flight and was wondering whether to bother. Did your friend have any success?

    Many thanks

I have been trying for compensation on the next flight LGW/TPA which should have departed 26 Jul delayed by the same birdstrike MCO/LGW so they are trying not to pay on both the following 2 knock-ons. Their solicitors have put a trainee in charge of responses and I received a 4 page letter all of which is either wrong or irrelevent to the EC law. I have a court date for later in October and will keep posted on here unless anyone else has success before in which case I would like to know...

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice. My return flight for a family of five from Orlando to Gatwick was delayed by 22 hours due to the flight not being able to leave Gatwick because of a technical fault. BA told us that if we submit a claim for our extra nights accommodation and days car hire they will refund this. After reading this foum I was wondering if I can claim for compensation as well and how I would go about this. Our luggage arrived home a further 24hrs after we did.

Hi - think we were on the same plane my family starting our holiday and you finishing yours? - my family travelling out from Gatwick to Orlando 24 July but leaving 22 hours late. BA did put us up in the Hilton at Gatwick but £5 voucher in the airport for the 6 hours waiting in the airport prior to deciding an overnight delay didn't go far! Just wondered if you have heard anything? I emailed them ont he online form and had acknowledgment but nothing else so far...

YIPPEE - Just had an email from BA confirming we are entitled to 600 euros per person and they are sending us a chq very soon ;-) worth pursuing
  • Just wanted to say thanks to MSN and Radio 5 on hearing this story about a month back. I remembered I had a BA delay last October and on hearing put in a claim. Received 20,000 miles the other week as holding and just contacted today to say £520 in post. No hassle or follow up questions.
    Thanks Maryin and team

Sometimes flightstats leaves some questions unanswered, particularly if flights are cancelled/delayed late afternoon/evening and an overnight stay is needed.

Here's an example on the 25th August 2013 flighstats

    "BA 2589 VCE-LGW
    British Airways 10:30 PM 2:07 AM 11:30 PM 4:04 AM ~ T-N Unknown 734

gives an 'unknown' for this flight."

If we look over on http://www.thebasource.com/british-airways-b737-400-g-doce-venice-technical-issue/
    advises delayed overnight

the ba source also advises http://www.thebasource.com/british-airways-a320-g-mido-venice-rescue-mission/ operated by g-mido

We can then search for flight information by the aircraft registration g-mido.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Flight from JFK to Newcastle via London Heathrow earlier this year.
Both flights booked with BA (on the same ticket)
The flight was delayed into London because of a lightning strike as the flight was travelling into JFK. The plane obviously had to have a couple of once overs resulting in a 5 hour delay at JFK. As I understand it this is outside of the airlines fault. BUT, the consequence of the delay in JFK caused us to miss our connecting flight to Newcastle. BA put us on the "next available flight"...6 hours later. This was not the next available flight.

Knowing the London to Newcastle timetable rather well there were three flights we could have been on between our original flight and the one we were assigned too. The consequence was we did not arrive into Newcastle until 7 hours later.

So because we were delayed originally by safety protocol the delay could have been only a little over two hours. Instead our delay was much longer.

    Please advise.

    Thanks

send a template letter with your claim, and 14/21 day NBA. BA seem to play fair in most cases so keep your fingers crossed.
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

  • Been in e mail contact with BA. This is for delayed flight with BMI in August 07,
In June they asked for proof of booking or boarding pass. I sent them proof of booking. Then in August they asked for boarding pass ( which I don't have), yesterday they refused me. Stating the 6 year legal limit had expired and thus my claim was denied.
Is there anything else I can do ?
    Thanks in advance v
  • From a practical viewpoint, nothing.

    Ok. Thanks very much.
