I couldn't be bothered to watch this.
As you say the standard of "journalism", and I use the word loosely, is shocking, especially from the BBC and this program.
Perhaps this ought to be forwarded to the CAA as a typical day in/day out example of how airlines are abusing both their fare paying passengers and the law of the land.If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

I just hope John who was the second case that they looked at finds this thread and some real experts will be able to advise him properly. After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

What have the BBC and Journalism have in common? NOTHING just look at the totally biased coverage of Brexit. When This Week finishes I will stop paying the license fee. Andrew Neil is the only decent presenter on the BBC0

I can forgive the BBC for not understanding the regs, for me - the whole news item became a total sham when the ‘expert’ Bob Atkinson takes a very one sided view and snuggled up to the airlines, in no way was his advice full, fair and independent.
He failed to mention right to care.
The most disgraceful thing he said, is you should talk to your airline first before spending any money.
Ok, then let’s say I personally had taken his expert advice last year in Paris, Jet2 after 30 mins or so on hold told me the ONLY option was a full refund due to an EC. No mention of right to care, no option to reroute or to rebook! It’s because of my involvement with this forum I knew their advice was wrong. I even questioned Jet2 several times only to be told it was me that was wrong. So Bobs advice is to accept what the airlines say. So back to Johns case he phones BA gets told the only 2 options are a refund or to take a flight 3 days later, no mention about right to care then or re- routing via another carrier? I guess John should pay for his own out of pocket expenses especially when it was a genuine EC! Then pay for his own re-routing - really??? Total rubbish.
Back to Bob Atkinson, he does have an extensive career in travel advice even appearing on ‘This Morning’ he mainly is a reporter for Travel Supermarket.
If you read this Bob, please could you post and explain your expert advice given, I’m certainly don’t profess to be an expert unlike yourself, I don’t even work in the airline industry, but I seem to have a clearer grasp of the regulations than yourself, or are you blaming the BBC for heavily editing your opinion? I for one would like a response.
Cheers,
NoviceAngel
EDIT - ...and if anyone that reads this works for Travel Supermarket or can contact Bob, please make him aware of this post - Thank you tar xAfter reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

Can anyone offer advice please, our flight to Orlando from LGW was cancelled due to bad weather at FLL from what I can see our flight to MCO would would have been using the return aircraft from FLL but as this was diverted to MCO on route to FLL, it sat there for 24 hours and was then used on a return to LGW, I don’t dispute there was bad weather at FLL but don’t see how we should be denied compensation (confirmed in email) for EC when both LGW and MCO had good conditions and the airline failed to provide us with a plane from Gatwick to Orlando with no reports of bad weather at either destination or departure airport. I can also see that a plane was ear marked at LGW for MCO (tail number) on the morning of the flight but was used on the Antigua route instead I assume for financial reasons? We were rebooked via Heathrow to Philadelphia to Orlando arriving 8 hours late. Any comments would be appreciated.0

Hi,
None of this is a valid excuse to refuse you compensation. Ask them once more to reconsider or, failing that, ask them to refer your case to CEDR who should find in your favour.
You should also claim any extra expenses incurred to fly from LHR.
Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
Will try and keep this short as I can...
3rd May flight BA2037 Gatwick to Orlando. Drive to Gatwick as it was cheaper than Manchester where we live, gf woke in night for a wee and low n behold text off BA cancelling flight due at 11.15am. Rang BA alternative flight was offered 2 leg journey from Heathrow at 14.45 same day via Dallas with American airlines to get us into Orlando next day 4th may at 1am. Rediculous alternative option!! No offer of a taxi to Heathrow nothing! Told BA on phone ok will not take that is there other options they said no but you can get compensation. Booked another flight with Thomas cook for same time as original flight cost 600 quid. Got home put in claim for compo told no as we did not take alternative flight told them we had Disney booked so could no take alternative flight plus would of been up for 30 hours would not be able to drive was told no compo as we booked flight and got there at the same time roughly and EU law says that means no compo!!! Is this right? It cost us to book with Thomas Cook. Asked them would they of known we did that if I didn't tell them they said yes they can access all other flight records!! Data protection...hello?? Was told then it was cancelled due to weather challenged the lie n was told ok another system says it was fleet problems, there was no bad weather!! Fuming my head off. They refunded 422 for the flight outbound but we are still down on money and faced with credit card bill. I would never fly BA ever again! Shocking service!! Please help and advise0 -
I think we were due on the same flight I got BA to admit there was no bad weather when pushed as we flew same time with Thomas Cook. Have you got any further with this? I wrote to the CEO and no reply. Disgusted with BA. Flight BA2037 3rd May?0

Hi,
My reply to Jody applies to you too, they are trying it on!
CEDR should find in your favour if it needs to go that far.
Good luck.
From the BA source...
British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIO Returns from Orlando.
May 3, 2019
Following its diversion yesterday, British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIO departed Orlando early this evening operating BA2036 Orlando – London Gatwick.
Today’s outbound BA2037 was cancelled. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
Jody, you need to download Vauban's superb guide on claiming compensation.
As far as I can see, you are due both compensation and your re-routing costs.
As BA cancelled your flight at least 12 hours in advance, it is unlikely to be an EC.
Are you saying your offered replacement with AA would arrive at 1am local time or UK time? If the former then I believe a minimum10 hours delay is unacceptable and you are due the above. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
