Flight delay and cancellation compensation, BA ONLY

  • I guess it's a case then of what they calculate the unused ticket to be. I did ask them, but because I didn't claim directly with them they suggested it was the agent I booked with who was responsible. I contacted the agent and they said it was nothing to do with them.

So I'm not sure who I'm meant to claim off? I booked though a holiday site rather than directly with BA.

The agent will probably have to request the refund as it will need to go back to them before the then agent proccesses it to you. This may be subject to agency fees. These kinds of cases of always more complicated when there's a middleman involved between yourself and the airline.

    Hi everyone,

My first BA flight was delayed (due to bad weather - not their fault...)and I missed the connection. The other people on the flight made the connection. I didn't because the pass they gave me to get through connections fast didn't work. Can I get compensation?

You maybe able to i recently submitted a claim for. Missed connection on it they ask the reason why and one of the answers is held up at security you needs to open a case only way you will find out!

Highly unlikely. In what way did the pass not work? The times I've been handed those you just show them to whomever is at the desk.
  • We have booked a Cruise Package with Princess Cruises and we had multiple flight options given to us when making the booking. We decided to pay extra for flight A (With American Airlines) that arrived in Miami at 4PM rather than flight B (With British Airways) that arrived in Miami at 10PM. We have now been informed that flight A has been cancelled and we have been moved on to a flight with British Airways that arrives in Miami at 8PM. We dont want to cancel the flight all together as it is still the cheapest option available to us but we are annoyed that we paid the extra in the first place to have the earlier flight and have now been changed to a later flight anyway.
Does anyone know if we have any rights to claim that money back, to claim any compensation or to insist that they put us on a flight that is earlier ?
    Thank You

They scanned the pass and it did not register. They tried a few times, then sent me back, and back again, still didn't work. Then they told me its too late, I've missed the flight.

They obviously did something wrong, and because of them I missed the flight. Anyone had a similar experience?

I had a recent flight to the US cancelled. 24 hours prior to departure. Although I got a full refund I had to pay substantially more to purchase another ticket with another airline last minute.

British Airways have denied my claim for compensation saying that they have had to make some schedule alterations because Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines have developed some problems and they have had to schedule an additional engine checks. They have said that these checks are outside of their control.

My issue with this is for two reasons:

    1. The aircraft I was due to fly on does not use Trent 1000 engines. I believe those engines are on the new dreamliners and I was due to fly on an older aircraft.

    2. The cancellation was 24 hours prior to departure and a simple refund does not compensate my additional out of pocket expenses for purchasing another last minute flight.

Has anyone come across similar claims and had any success?

    Many thanks
    Matt

I believe you have a valid claim for reason 1. Reason 2 could depend on the date the RR recall/inspection was issued and if it was urgent or not.
Irrespective of the above, BA Should have re-routed you at their expense or should compensate you for the additional expenses. Even if the engine issue is an EC (unlikely) the EC aspect does NOT exempt BA from duty of care.
